hi ive been shooting for a couple of years now but its like pheasant and rabbit and fox so im new to the wildfowling stuff the problem is me and my mate have sum land which is free to shoot and the land owner doesnt mind us shooting the duck either!! its right on the side of the lakes edge but the problem is the lake is huge and the ducks {as always} seem to be on the other side but thats not to far cuz the lake narrows down we have set up a hide it has trees around the 3 sides of us and we have sum cammo net in the front so what i wanna no is are there any decoying patterns with the {mallard}or{teal} i can set up?? like it is with pigeons!! we shoot sum but its mostly when they are in flight and thats just luck they come over our hide and we have tryed feeding up around our hide!! any suggestions welcome thanks

Alrite mate, When we are decoying we like to set them out in a horseshoe pattern just like the pigeon! That way we find that you can get them to flight in where you want them! i also like to make my pattern quite big with a varietey of teal mallard and widgeon deeks! i Just do this to make the ducks feel confident to drop in! Most of my decoying is done on the estuary and rivers and that seems to work for me but whether the same things applys to lochs and lakes i dont know!! Im sure others will let you know there ways for decoying but thats mine. Hope this helps!!

a good tip to make up the numbers would be to feed the pond with wheat as long as its not too daap on the edges tip wheat into the pond the duck will soon start to find it,i feed ponds and sometimes have 100's coming in to flight at dusk!!! same goes for the day get em feeding tidy and youle have some fair sport just dont over shoot it or the ducks will become wise, once a fortnight or every threeweeks will give you great sport!!!

Garypco is right if you concentrate on feeding up the pond every night starting a month or so before the season starts. I spread feed around the edge of our pond and in the shallow bays and keep monitoring how much is eatin when I go down, put more down if there eating the lot and less if its not, wheat seems the best but old tatties work a treat aswell. you'll soon not have to worry where they come in on the pond or how to set deeks out there will be so many moving about and dropping in your next worry will be reloading fast enough and marking fallen birds. As Garypco said dont shoot it any more than once a fortnight better once every 3weeks.

happy hunting Meikle.
