I personally wouldn't consider breeding till the/a bitch was nearer 7

unless retired early through injury that was nt heriditary. at 5yrs what have you had out of the bitch 3seasons work(I dont include the first season as she'd be learning)so by 5 she would be in her prime work wise and barring injury should carry on for another couple of seasons before you notice a decline and by this time you should be able to decide wether she's been good enough to breed from unfortunately not all bitches and dogs do turn out good enough to be bred from
