ford capri :laugh::laugh:

what was the average, top speed, and 0-60mph ? thats if they did 60mph, am only a old boy of 19 so dont have the privilage to have ago in one of theses monsters. , :whistling:

0- 60 of a 2.8i was around 8 secs if i remember right, which was pretty quick back then.....top end was 135ish......i had 140 out of a 3.0 ghia once on the a2 down to dover,my arse dropped out when it felt like the whole car was going to fall to pieces and i backed out :D

I had a mk2 rs2000 escort nosecone job around 1982 it was only a few years old, there used to be a place called Burton Power Products over Romford way i put it in there and just said " make it quick "....came back with a rolling road sheet that made no sense to me whatsoever and 170 bhp at the wheels, that encouraged me to throw some bucket seats and a roll cage in :icon_redface: ...what a twat !

My brother had a Booklands Capri which i think was the same 2.8i engine, not sure about the Tickford one though it rings a bell.

As Jasper said you didnt need to be good with a spanner to get round them cars if i remember right the 2.0 pinto was the same in cortina,s capris and escorts even the 3.0 v6 out of a capri would fit in an escort with a bit of jiggling.....good days they were, nice old memory jog there Jasp

My first car was a 16LS Capri when I was 21 in 1989....

A few years later I got my hands on a 3lS with an RS 3.1 conversion, X-pack suspension, Wolfrace alloys, 2.8 ltd slip diff and 5 speed box, tinted windows and matt black paint :gunsmilie: . It was feckin' lethal to drive, a proper handful but it was such a giggle going into a corner wondering if I'd make it out the other side!!

Always regretted selling that car.

That new one's missing the point big style. They should re-badge the Mustang, fit it with a feck off supercharger and sell that as the Capri. Nitros would be a factory option too........

Cheers.

DID ANY OF YOU LADS HAVE THE TICKFORD CAPRI THAT WAS RELEASED AS A SPECIAL EDITION WITH THE LOTUS ENGINE IF I REMEMBER.THAT WAS A CAR.

Worth a fortune now. Personally I thought they looked shit.

Kyle

Yeah, they did look a mess with those daft skirts and spoiler. Went like stink with the turbo (s?) though.

A lad I used to knock about with years ago, his dad used to race hot rods etc. He had a mk1 capri with a supercharged rover v8 lump in it. I never seen the car, apart from in photos but it looked wicked, it was meant to be like a rocket. The engine was in his garage on a purpose built stand last time I was there (about 9 years ago) all polished up and looking mint.

christ jasper, Im just in from my night shift, and instead of getting in bed with the missus, Im sat here thinking back to my first car :icon_redface: a mk3 1300 cortina, bought for £80, it sailed through an mot,it was blue, but the shine had gone from the paintwork, so if you leant against it, you'd have a blue hand

both the front doors had dropped on it, so they were welded shut, and in the daytime Id climb in and out the drivers window, like "the dukes of hazzard" couldent afford an alarm, but had a set of dixie horns under the bonnet, so the drivers rear door would be left unlocked, but I had a bit of string, going from the door to the toggle switch for the horns :icon_redface: so if the door was opened at night, in the dark, it would flick the switch and the horns went balistic

being a new driver, I had no idea about engines (still dont :icon_redface: ) so me,a mate and my girlfriend are driving around town, when I saw a red light flicker on the dash, thinking it needed oil, I emptied 5 gall into it, carried on driving, untill some kids shouted out "oi mate, yer cars on fire", christ the smoke pumping out the exhaust, had to phone my old man to come sort my little problem out :icon_redface:

Bah. Humbug. Now my Anglebox with the 1650 crosshead lump, Jeff Howe head, twin 40DCOEs, Cosworth A6 cam, Jeff Howe 4-into-one manifold, 2" lowering blocks, export springs, anti tramp bars, McPherson struts, Cortina discs, DS5 pads,VG95 shoes on the back, 7" Ton Tyres steels, 205 Cints all round . . .

That was a bloody quick car. 145 bhp at the back axle in a car that weighed well under a ton.Wrapped it round a tree in the end. A good death for a good car.
