trammel nets

What benefits do you think a trammel net has over a standard 100% bagging longnet?

If you have both trammel & standard longnets, what do you take into consideration when deciding which to use?

ive used trammelnets for fish lobster etc but not for rabbits , trammels catch bigger fish in the walls of the netas you have awall either side of mesh and atandard 6 inch mesh in the middle cant see the pluses apart from more tangles

i have one, tried it and yes it picks up more crap than its worth, its heavy and the rabbits just keep bouncing off the larger green mesh, unable to find their way in but when they do, they usually stay BUT this net doesnt do anything that a good ordinary net will. imo.

I think a lot of the trammel net is a P.R job, ££££££'s i wonder out of all those who have bought one will still use it. :hmm:

REGRDING TRAMMEL NETS... well there is no need for a heavier outer wall... the finer the mesh the deadlier I.M.O. outer/ inner... but I cant see any benefit regarding trammel nets in the use of rabbit nets.... leave the trammels to the fishermen....... feck I think I had better keep my mouth shut about fine twined trammel walls.... feck before the inks dry the players will be trying to source fine twined TRAMMEL WALLS...... learn the hard way if you want make trammels......... :11: I only charge £1. per hour........P.S. SQUARE MESH/DIOMOND MESH.......its pish easy if you have the will and the patience.... If theres any of you guys out there who are willing to travell to DUNBARTONSHIRE SCOTLAND...

MMMmmmm trammel nets, one for the tackle tarts :clapper:

looks like i,m a tackle tart then, i use trammels for all my daytime ferreting ,(ordinary ones for night work ) it certainly helps hold the rabbits when you work alone like i do, i had way to many rabbits in and out of a normal net while i was busy with the first one and the dog is taught to stand over a netted rabbit , not crush the crap out of one, i,m not saying for one minute that every rabbit is held , but i certainly get a better percentage , i have had 7 rabbits in a net in less than a minute and the trammels held them all, everyone to there own , but you shouldnt knock it til you try it.

your right there moley, shouldnt knock it till you try it. the new found desire to use trammel nets isnt a new idea,i was using them back in the late 80s. I dont know what sort of ground you work but most,if not all my ferreting is around or under or through hedgerows and ive found that trammels pick up far to much s!@t in this case. im not saying for one moment that they dont work as i know they do.

as for the comment about tackle tarts, just a joke, didnt men to offend anyone.

Reminder to myself: must stop upsetting the more sensitve hunters on this site :D

:11: Trammels,.they do your fecking head in... :11:

Mind you,.I always run out the trammel when doing those lucrative 'garden jobs...

To lose a rabbit is unthinkable,..and costly....££££

Its no good telling the client that you have done the job,.its 'done and dusted Sir',.no probs Sir,...for him then to ask you,..'And what about the rabbit that bounced out of your net and went back under the garden shed"...Oops....Trammels certainly have their place,... ;)

Whatever we use the underlying message is "if it works for you" :clapper:

The times i have used the fishing net have been a lot less than you moley, the terrain dictates their use at home as molecatcher said and the jobs they are to used on are selective as chalky said, they are just another piece of kit, like the smaller mesh, sizes, weights etc, right place right time.

So, they catch, they dont, just like any other net :hmm: but when they do catch, boy do they tangle

i would'nt want to use it at night though :11:

WELL LADS,

IVE USED TRAMMELS FOR FISH AND GAME , THEY DO TANGLE ......... BUT ISNT THAT WHAT IS SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN ?? :D

I HAVE EVEN MADE SOME TRAMMEL GATE NETS WHICH I USED FOR KATIES [ HARES ] YRS AGO FROM IRISH LINEN [ THE BEST NATURAL TWINE IMO ! ] WHICH WERE EXCELLENT WHEN WORKING ALONE , I HAVE SEEN TRAMMELS WHICH LADS HAVE MADE AND THEY ARE ON THE DIAMOND , TO ME THEY ARE BETTER KILLERS ON THE SQUARE ....... BUT TO EACH HIS OWN ;)
