Casso 1,261
Not sure how game dogs need to be, on this side of the pond , we just havent the quarry available to test a dog proper,, high prey drive is not the same as gameness,,i've met a lot of lads who seem to think their animals are game, when in all honesty , they havent got a clue , What would you class as a game dog? and why would they be on the other side of the pond and not this? So your saying its impossible to have game dogs here because we dont have the stuff to test them? Id go as far as saying, your the one who hasnt got a clue, sorry Thats not aimed at you bud,,when i said in all honesty they havent got a clue, if their dog is game or not, Quote Link to post
STUNTMAN 552
The best sighthound ive ever had was started on rabbits and Hares,...when we moved to the Mid-West, and i went 'Raccoon-Crazy', he soon learnt what teeth and claws can do!..lol. I swear, the first 20-30 Coon he saw, he would act like a Collie on sheep..lol...barking, running around them etc...one night, the penny dropped!..ever since then, he is bang on, straight on the business end, and he is the same with Coyotes and other heavy game...he has killed HUNDREDS of Raccoon, and out of all the dogs on my yard right now, he started the WORST, and IS the best right now... Kye.. Kye any of your dogs ever get CHP? Not sure how game dogs need to be, on this side of the pond , we just havent the quarry available to test a dog proper,, high prey drive is not the same as gameness,,i've met a lot of lads who seem to think their animals are game, when in all honesty , they havent got a clue , What would you class as a game dog? and why would they be on the other side of the pond and not this? But I must be talking shite right? I mean im an Irishman how the f**k would I know what a game dog is. Quote Link to post
Kye 77
SM, we have had three go down with CHP...one of Tiffs terriers died from it, another got over it with meds, but wasnt the same ever again, recently put him down (old age) and the third was a terrier of mine, who responded very well to treatment, but i culled him in the end (not coz of the CHP though) Quote Link to post
Dan Edwards 1,134
Just cuz a dog dies tryin DOES NOT mean it is game. Sure it may have died before it quit that time cuz it was killed but what about next time. Gameness is the most talked about trait and the least ever seen. Its a bunch of bullshit really. I know what your saying Dan, but im talking about GAME dogs here ok (not mine). Now, I work running dogs myself have done all my life of various breeding. I enter them based on the individual dog, I try to show them a good taste of what their life will be about by about 10-12 months old, after this first time I will decide wether or not the dog will need holding back or seeing a bit more. I run various game, and like an all round lurcher, some fail to make my standard, but im prepared to wait until 2 possibly even 3 for the finished article if I belive its in the dog. I wouldnt call any of my dogs GAME dogs. I understand you were not talkin bout your dogs or mine or anybody's in particular. I just mean what I type, nothin hidden in my message. The rest of your post is damn good. I think you have a good grasp on how to enter a dog, much better than me thats for sure. I just pour the coals to em when I see fit and I know at times that aint the best approach. Quote Link to post
