JackReid 35
Hello all, My freshly tuned 95k met disaster a few days ago when the cocking lever came away on one side of its fixing. I've sent it off to Sandwell Fieldsports and it will be back fixed tomorrow or tuesday I'm told . I've got access to a 97K and a 97KT while my gun is away and have managed to get out once or twice with them inbetween doing some fishing. I'm in love with sea fishing but being so far from the sea only get to do it sometimes, lake fishing just isnt as good! Anyway I headed out the other night thinking it was perfect and I was going to have a great night on it. Took the 97KT but once arriving and warming up on some targets found that it may not be such a good night after all. I am now very used to shooting a world class level tuned rifle, and a fairly newish un-tuned springer was alot more erratic in its firing cycle. My groups got better but I had flyers quite often and generally didnt feel confident with it. Its all down to personal preference but a thumbhole stock really hinders my shooting I think... Because the adjustable butt pad is so tightly screwed in nobnody can adjust it, the screws just ripped up when we tried to do it properly... Very annoying. I think the exagerated curve in the adjustable butt pad made it deifficult for me to shoot without adjusting it, would like to have another go to do it soon but I put my bad shooting down to that. I headed round the farm but didnt feel very comfortable with the shooting of the gun at all, and missed a fair few shots. Another problem was the volume of this 97KT. My 95k is so quiet I can be in a small area and make a kill kowing that a rabbit 25 meters away would be none the wiser, where as this let everything know where I was. Even the cocking method of underleaver was loud enough to ensure no chance of multiple shots at different quarry. Dont think I could ever own a springer that isnt tuned after having my 95k done! Anyway, enough moaning, I got one kit and missed afew more and after about 5 shots everything with a heartbeat on the permission knew I was out there so I packed up in a huff and left. Today I drove to my mates and dropped off the 97KT and got the 97K which I have made sopme awesome groupings with before. Had a quick zero and headed to my pre made hide I have constructed for the crows I have mentioned before. I know the right time of day would probably be morning but I am working tonight and havent had a chance to go in the morning. I got i nthe hide and fixed it a bit, waiting for the crows to come sit on the huge pile of crap they love to hang out on. I put out a decoy to reassure them down/over from somewhere else and to park 27 meters from which I would judge the rest of the distances. The view In hide. The damage to crops. I spent 45 mins in here, wth only a couple landing just over my line of sight whcih was frustrating, however about 50-100 crows were further down the field so that was the hang out for those few hours and I was unlucky. Ironically I headed out round the farm looking for pigeons/crows to catch out. A large crow took off from amongst some old tyres at about 60 meters, just flying over my line of sight. He did it in a casual lazy way as I think he had been sunbathing in the heat of the tyres and maybe had partially seen me or thought I wasnt much of a threat. They usually are off straight away but this summer some seem to be a little less quick off the mark. Guessing where he was I climbef up a bank and slowly walked round stopping and raising the gun every few steps to see him amongst all the rubbish of a farm area. Finally I raised the gun and he had his back to me on a post, it was about 25 meters so not too bad however I dont like standing shots as much. Just as I raised the gun the wind starting blowing hard, I wobbled around for 5 seconds until I was happy and let the shot go. Dropped like a stone at the base of the post. I collected him and put him outside the farmers hous eto hang up by the effected damage areas. Another crow down. I spent a further 30 mins plinking tiny tiny stones upto 40 meters with the 97K. I love it and for some reason would take it over the 97KT anyday, its just my preference of stock and how it feels. Maybe the butt adjustment o nthe 97KT would change my mind massivley!! I have a feeling ym mates 97KT may have something not perfect on it, like its louder and doesnt fire as cleanly but I could be wrong. Will mention it to him and se eif he will get it tuned for himself!! Gonna get back in the hide with the 95k as soon as its back, watch this space.. matt_hooks 188
Nice work with the crow. Don't want to have a go, but if I'm not totally happy with the setup I'm using I won't fire at anything living. The margin for error with bunnies and such is so small that the additional risk of wounding if the setup isn't spot on is too high in my opinion! Quote Link to post

Upto 25 meter I was always within the inch killzone but anything past that I wasn't happy with. With my 95k at 25 meters I'm expecting to put 5-10 shots through a hole 5p size and alot of time smaller. So getting a 1 nch grouping was frustrating with the 97KT. I did pack up in the end after missing a 25 metre anyway so am on the same trail of thought as yourself! Cheers Jack Quote Link to post

Some people round here would have taken offence! I know all about frustrating loss of accuracy. Had been shooting the .270 with deer, putting 5 rounds through effectively a single hole at 150 yards. Had to use the .308 for a bit and was struggling to keep the rounds in the 4" kz! Turned out the scope mount screws had worked ever so slightly loose, so it was moving enough to throw the aim out at 150 yards. Quote Link to post
