adammubu 0
hi, ive had a sandy hob for about 2 months now. he's a year old and hes been fine up untill now, eating well, crapping well and everything, also he is in heat. but last week i broguht back three new kits, for him to be with, as he has been alone for all this time. but when we did,(i got two jill kits and a hob) he'd start mounting the jills and just fighting the hob. so ive had to seperate them. they're in completely seperate cages now, but the sandy hob is still going crazy. he's got the 'rats tail' ive read about. he's lost hair on the end of his tail and you can actually see the skin and flesh of his tail. this isn't even worrying me the most, he's stopped eating. i'm feeding him the james wellbeloved ferret complete. and everytime i fill his bowl up, he will just go up to it and turn the bowl over with everythin in it. ive considered he might not like it, but he's been eating it for 2 months now, it cant be that bad. what can i do to make him eat properly again? ooh ps, he's getting castrated in about a weeks time. scothunter 12,609
try him with rabbit or if you cant get any,get turkey legs from asda they love it and its not expensive.as for the losing hair and rats tail.i wouldnt worry to much they do tend to moult and their hormones are all over the place at this time of the year.just keep an eye on him if he dont eat the turkey or rabbit maybe a quick check up to make sure he aint caught something. Kay 3,709
if theres poo in the corners then he is eating something ... hobs this time of year can drop a lot of weight just being in season if he is getting castrated in a week then he will calm done once the hormones have settled down .. as advised try him on something else food wise he is obviously hormonal by the behaviour you described when you introduced the kits to him... adammubu 0
thanks for the advice. going to get him so chicken or turkey today. yeah he is still drinking so ok. and i dont think so, they are about 6 meteres away and around the corner. so i dont think so. but he does go wild when we take the kits out on the back garden. (his cage is just infront of the garden). also, once he has been castrated how long will take for his hormones to settle down and to introduce him with the kits? thanks Edited July 11, 2010 by adammubu Quote Link to post
lurcher lass 9
personally i wouldn't introduce new ferret members until after the breeding season, means hormones can settle down, but then castrating should speed things up a bit though i'm unsure by how much . . feed wize try a beaten egg daily, it may be that he's too hot to eat a large meal, the egg will be a treat and give him protein, gives him something in his stomach, then try any scraps of meat, the turkey legs are good idea, i buy them for the dog from time to time, they cost approx £1.10 or there abouts off cuts from butcher, sausage meat anything that could be really interesting to him as this heat makes all of us feel fed up hope all is ok lurcher lass xx Quote Link to post
