Golf course pest control

Hello all. I have just Introduced myself in the welcome forum and have a quick question for you all.

Myself and my cousin have just invested in a Webley Raider 2.2 with 3-9x40 scope and Moderator for hunting rabbits local to where we live. As part of finding somewhere to shoot with permission we popped in to our local Golf club. we are yet to speak to the right person but we intend on going back during the week. My question is this.... Can we charge the club for this 'service' or should we just be greatful for somewhere to shoot?

We have obviously just started out shooting but we have taken a few bunnies already with a .177 junior for fun....and feel confident that with the new gun we can make our mark on any decent rabbit population.

Any advice will be very much appreciated

Just be greatful of the permission to shoot. Paid rabbit work is a diferent ball game and best left for the pro's or at least until your more experianced.

at the moment, if you get given permission and do it for free, you'll be able to visit with times to suit you, either daily,weekly etc

and a golf course manager/groundsman would be thankful to you

 

but once you mention money, it all changes, they would want/need to put it through there books, therefore a reciept would be needed, with your details, mr tax man will eventually notice that xxx amount is being paid to you on a regular basis, and he'll want some of it, plus you'll then need to do risk assessments, method statements, show your insurance details, your going to need insurance anyway, but most of the sporting insurances SACS,BASC etc include a public liability insurance in there yearly fee's, but it only covers you for UNPAID WORK, so if your charging, expect to have to buy insurance, £300/£400 plus

theirs loads more, but I'll leave it there, except remember, two of you have bought an air rifle between you, theres probably another 20 people like you in your area, and maybe a few more with rimfire, all looking for somewhere to shoot rabbits for free, if you try charging, how long do you reckon you'll get, before someone elses asks the owners for permission, offering free rabbit control

golf courses are also a magnet for dog walkers, bird watchers, walkers. couples with things other than golf on their mind and thats just in the day time, nightime it gets worse. so insurance is a must, trust me if you shoot one regular you will need it.

find a local game dealer he will buy the rabbits off you if they are shot with an air rifle you might get some where around 1 pound a rabbit if they are good healthy rabbits head shot :-)

Just to put my two cents in...

 

We took the day off work today to try get permission, spent 8 hours traveling around west and north yorkshire.

We had no joy what so ever in getting any, this service been offered free and on whatever terms the landowner wanted. We offered to pay an annual fee to a couple of the landowners that seemed interested but still nothing.

 

A couple did take details but only as a back up. There is that many people at it, you just need to be grateful of anything you can get.
