MEIKLE 0
Hi guys, i've got 4 jills and 1 hob, the hob is this years young i'm still undesided on if I should get him the snip so he can take the jills out of season or leave him intire. Is there a certain age to get him dealt with or can he be done at any age, I was wondering if I could just leave him whole and seperate him at the start of next year til the jills come into season then jab them and return him to the big cage once there all out of season. I just feel that would be a shame for him as he has always lived with his girls and I cant see being a happy fella on his own I have also heard of dealt with hobs fathering young and I certainly dont want that. I would appriciate some thoughts on the matter cheers. happy hunting Meilkle. Quote Link to post

Kay 3,709
When i had a vasectomised hob i found him invaluable, luckly he was able to stay with the jills all yr long as he didnt bother them only when they needed bringing out of season. I also noticed the jills didnt have phantom pregnancys after being in with him either, so i would go for it personally Quote Link to post
The Ferret Tamer 1
I used to be the same a few years back, only work jills. They would only work in the winter, come spring they started messing about didnt want to know. The wife keeps ferrets "poofy show ferrets" that is, most of the hobs are castrated some cracking jills and she always keeps a few kits back each year for showing. Got up late one morning was supposed to be ferreting for a shoot, went to get the jills they wouldnt even come out of their beds , couldnt be doing with jills messing me about that morning so went to the aviary where the wifes ferrets are  , called a couple of "her lads" and away we went, took to it like ducks to water, went at the holes like they had been doing it for ages rabbits bolting left right and center the guns had hell of a day. Now I only work castrated hobs, they can work all year round, they keep focused on the job, no breeding season to think about and best of all they can all live together quite happily. Wife is ok about it as long as I bring them home in one piece, but there are still some of her hobs I cant take out. FT Quote Link to post
