puppy with pet rabbit

Hi, i have a 12 week old bull grey pup and in my garden we have a pet rabbit (not my choice) i was wondering if my pup gets too friendly with the pet rabbit will he not want to hunt them when hes older? will post pics of the pup soon when i work out how to do it! lol. cheers.

its all what they get used to seen and now plenty of dogmen whos kids have

a pet rabbit in garden never bothered the pet one but still caught wild ones

yea i got a mate who got 2 lurchers they dont bother with his lil sister pet rabbits but do catch wild ones dont know why tho?

nout to bother about try calling the ones at home bunnies and the ones out in field rabbits gets a bit of a distinction between the two mine lives with two and goes like f**k after any in the field

Years ago we had a pet rabbit called Sweep, who used to spend so much time breaking out of his hutch that every time he sauntered past me, i'd hear the theme to " The Great Escape "

 

One afternoon i'd put our lurcher out in the garden for an hour or so, when i went to let her in, i found her and Sweep sitting side by side, both looking at me when i opened the door. The same dog is brill with our chickens too.

I keep a Belgian Hare loose in the garden, I dont want my Terriers chasing Rabbits so I keep him for that reason, to teach control.

Ok cheers for the replies, im more bothered about him not being able to do the job in the field than whether he gets the pet bunny! lol! wont tell my sister that tho!

my advice mate pick the rabbit up by the back legs and give it one swift chop in the back of the neck and that should stop all your worrying and if you can't do that i would seriously consider rehomeing your pup because i have 6 dogs and they would hate me if i made them look at a rabbit all day through a cage

It won't effect his hunting ability mate. Dogs aren't stupid [well, most of 'em aren't] and know what can and can't be touched.

Its same when you have cats, most dogs that live with cats would still go after other cats when out of the house.

pet-kept and wild animals smell completely different to other animals, most dogs properly broken to pet-kept should not have any issue hunting the wild ones.
