feral cats are a real pest in my area.

Have your kids ever had a pet cat? How do you decide if it's a kids pet out hunting or a real feral? An intact Tom can have a 10 mile circuit that he patrols each night in search of Queens in season and farm cats do a real service in keeping vermin down. Real feral populations are self limiting due to starvation and cat flu decimating litters. My personal experience is that there are usually far more foxes than cats in the countryside, maybe more ferals in the suburbs. OMO.

after seeing what a baboon can do to a dog, and what a big cat (wild cat) can do to a baboon, i probably would turn around and f**k off,no matter how big your bull x is or how gutsy he is. there were a few sightings of the ' big cat ' around yorkshire, gamekeepers eventually caught it, turned out to be a black greyhound gone feral, look it up on google if you dont believe me, but all the best killing big cats..

It makes you wonder if the question of there existance in the wilds of england will every be properly answered, I have often heard news of sightings,I have lamped and stalked for years and never seen anything that could not be explained as for using dogs on em I value mine too much,

ive seen pitctures of a puma that was shot some where in the uk in the 90's etc, i do believe there have been wild big cats in britain, as alot where just released into the wild when the DWA regulations came in, and judging by the amount of prey a normal domestic house cat kills even though they are getting fed, i definately believe a good few the smaller species such as ocelots, european wild cats, servals etc would have a really good chance of living out their natural lives in the wild without ever being seen,

 

but big cats such as leopards? lions, tigers, panthers... they are designed for large prey roe deer size at the least, every few days in order to survive, and they have huge terriotries, i find it hard to believe they could survive without at least coming into some sort of contact with people, and if they did and that person had some dogs with them, i wouldnt bet on the dogs unless 4 or more big tough dogs, and it would be the numbers that drove the cat away or was its down fall because on a one to one basis both being healthy and in peak condition i cant see any breed of dog killing a panther, lion, leopard or tiger, ive heard stories of dogos etc taking down a mountain lion, and infact saw a programme called 'dogs 101' where the family related to the man who started the dogo breed, had a dog that killed a mountain lion when it attacked two small girls, when the girls found their father he rode over on a horse to find a dead mountain lion and the dogo on deaths door lying down unable to get up and its face is a wreck, it just about survived.

 

plus for there still to be big cats here now the only explination is the illegal pet trade and illegal release of these animals, you'd have more chance of winning the lottery then the other explination which is that big cats released in the mid 70's bred and produced young which then bred with sibling maybe other big cats etc etc, bearing in mind they would have to be of the same species as im sure big cat hybrids have a really low fertility rate and in most case is non existent.

I wouldnt slip my dogs on a big cat me and father were out with the dogs for a walk one bright day in the winter and saw cat that looked like a big from a distance was actually a pet cat as we heard a woman call out trixie lol

i used tohave a dear hound grey hound that was forever bowling foxes and any thing else i aimed a lamp at but one night i was out and flicked round the field and saw something that i thought was a large fox i slipped her she ran at it as always got there and turned and ran back to me the only time she ever jacked on anything i do not know what it was to this day but there was alot of suspected big cat sightings in my area at the time

shouldn,t have to decide if its a kids cat or not, house cats should be treated in the same way as dogs in my opinion, kept in the house or on a lead under control, but no they,re let loose to shite in folks gardens and kill the wee birds

pretty sure noone has any say if their cat gets killed while not in their garden or premesis.. something to do with a cat being a possesion? Im not sure on the specifics.... just thought id throw that in there though

 

saying that one of my permissions has SO many feral cats its unreal..ive not too long ago, seen pregnant ones walking around... crap yasel when they jump out at you like!!

 

on another permission.. the owner genuinly believed there was some kind of large cat (not like.. lion sized but bigger than your average house cat) in the forest area of his land..to the point that he got a rabbit off us that we ferreted and hung it in a tree (it was dead)..high enough to stop a dog getting it .. and it did g o within a couple nights with just the bit attatched to the rope he strung it up with ...that doesnt mean it was a cat but he believes it was...

 

maybe something bigger than a house cat around.. quit often hear of things like that

If a running dog or lurcher had previous experience with big game it could definitely be used on big cats. Not likely for the kill (by themselves), but to harass and bay them/tree them. Looks like Doc's bull lurcher has seen some of this action. The dog just has to be smart enough to not blindly go in for the kill. In the americas 2-3 good dogs can bay just about any type of big cat. Hard as it is to imagine, even African lion were bayed successfully for many years.
