deanothehunter 34
hi all , just changed fom .22 to .20 caliber on same gun by having barrel and power changed to suit new caliber. years ago i always zeroed a .22 at 25 yards but then changed to 30 yards less hold over/under etc. at different ranges they say .177 best zeroed at 30 to 35 yards for hunting is this the case for .20 cal too ? as told it has pretty similar flat flight path like .177 but still nice hitting power as .22 as pellets im using 14.3 grains in .20 same weight as my last .22 variety. never used this in between caliber before so not sure how it will work until i get out ........i cant wait. gurtwurz 792
hi deano,i shoot .20 in both my rapid and r10 and zero at 30m, same as most do with .177. i've found h+n ftts shoot fairly flat and deliver a lovely whack, although i dont trust my shooting out past 35 yds on a good day(generally i just go out to 30 from a kneeler) so i couldnt tell you what theyre like at long or extreme range. sadly the rapid eats logun penetrators and they've stopped doing em in .20 although defiant do a similar pellet type(see clubshot about em).the loguns are quite heavy at 15.6 grains so they fly more like .22 than any of the others, but christ when they hit they do exactly what theyre meant to! apparently .20s making a bit of a comeback so maybe we'll see some more pellets appearing in the future, hope so cos its a very underrated caliber, i've had pretty good success with it on both fur and feather, even if i keep the distance down due to a general lack of long range prowess... enjoy buddy!! all the best, wurz Quote Link to post
deanothehunter 34
cheers wurz i cant wait to get out and try in .22 i could shoot well out to 40 yards so should nt be a problem but thats the max anyone should shoot live stuff with a 12 ft lb,er i see comments every day where some people shoot rabbits etc at 70 + yards and pistols for rabbits at 20 to 30 yards i think they,re dreaming i like to see em pull it off with me watching lol......... gurtwurz 792
well mate, there're some bloody good shots out there but i aint one of em lol... seriously tho, some of the guys on here are capable of some amazing shooting, but they've put the time into it and sorted their rigs to get the very best out of em bet your distances increase with the flatter trajectory that .20 gives tho mate, you just wait cheers, wurz Quote Link to post
matt_hooks 188
Anyone who talks about shooting live quarry in the UK with an air pistol is an idiot, as its illegal, full stop! Even a full legal power pistol isn't powerful enough to ensure a clean kill! I know some pest controllers use them for very close range rats in a confined space, but in theory even that os illegal! As for the .20, as with any calibre, if you can put it in the right place it'll do the job admirably! The .20 is perhaps a little easier to shoot at the longer ranges due to the flatter trajectory than the .22! Good luck with it, look forward to seeing pics of how effective it is! Quote Link to post
