Monkeyjax 0
So there is no reason why greys couldn't be used against rabbit its down to personal preference, assuming your permission is open field and not fell Quote Link to post

Guest deerhound hunter
lurcher has more brains ,better field craft, better agility, better prey drive,so i don,t why people want to work greyhound their turning is rubbish the only thing good about is their speed but that also their downfall in my experience they allways over shoot things ,leave them to the track chaseing rags about. I partly agree with your reasons in comparison to track greyhounds/ex racers but a GHD reared from a pup could match a lurcher on any of the above. I disagree with prey drive as purebreds will usually have a go at anything & are fired up more than most when chasing. Turning just comes down to experience & if a dog has the intelligence to use it's speed. The only drawbacks I would think are stamina & injuries due to the speed they have. Quote Link to post
luke. 9
I have seen a few Greyhounds and heard of alot more that are amazing all rounders, but IMO i would go for a lurcher based on personal preference. Luke. Quote Link to post

Stabs 3
One of my neighbours is an old boy who races gryehounds and he keeps a few that he runs at the huge numbers of hares that we have local to us. Actually, that's not quite right as "the man" has just built a dual carriageway through our coursing ground. Anyway, he gets his charges out in the field and runs pretty much the same quarry as I do. His dogs do fine although on occasion he carries his off the field, whereas I walk mine off. We run very, very rough ground so it's not surprising they suffer with their feet a bit Quote Link to post
Top Lamper 2k10 169
greyhounds are decent dogs but lurchers are loads better for stamina and other things i used to run my lurcher with a greyhound years ago and my lurcher used to run rings round it but the greyhound still was a very good dog though but it didnt hav the stamina compared to the lurcher but it did hav a very good prey drive and it would try its hart out on everything it ran so i think greyhounds are decent dogs but are no way better than a lurcher Quote Link to post
coursing man 10
What reasons do people use lurchers over greys on rabbit??? ive got both and on rabbit or hare (pre-ban)the grey is easy the best over 1 run but often comes back lame as they will run through a brick wall to catch there quarry, the lurcher seems to have more stamina as time goes on and seem more light on there feet.but thats just my experiance Quote Link to post
boyo 1,398
whoever said a lurcher has more prey drive than a greyhound is wrong full stop but lurcher every time imo. Quote Link to post
