judge2010 196
its horrible but the risks you have to take for the sport of hunting in the U.S.A i guess. I like the idea of running large irish wolfhounds with the hounds to protect them from wolves. Quote Link to post
stevemac 433
Well you can thank the the libers for this they had wolves beaten in the USA, So the Idiots introduced the larger canadian timber wolf to replace them the dam things. These things run in packs and weigh around 200lb each. Quote Link to post

Wolfhound wouldn't stand a chance against these lads - the wolfhound was made for hunting the eurasian wolf which is much smaller, lighter and less aggressive. The wolves that killed those dogs were timber wolves as the post above mentions. A wolfhound might put up a wee fight but against more than one would quickly get pulled apart. The major issue is that the denning sites are kept quiet from the hunters which leads to unfortunate meetings. 1 Quote Link to post

Not just Montana, Wisconsin has 30+ dogs killed by wolves every year. Mostly hounds training for or running on Black Bear, some family dogs in their own front yards as well.
