making a fly fishing leader

ok i have found a little mountain lough not far from me and whilst there i noticed loads of very small trout jumping all over the place.

i do have all the fly fishing gear but only messed about here and there with it. so it is all pretty new to me.

anyway i am going to dust it off in the morning and i hope to get some pratice in with it on this little lake.

 

so what i want to know is how do i make my own leader (the lenght of line that i tie the flies on to).

i want to use 2 flies so what is the knot needed to tie the extra length of line for the second fly

 

any help or diagrams would be a great help

its a four turn water knot you want mate for your second fly,, i'd go for 3 or 4lb mono, here's a link for the knot

best thing to do is use small rig rings. I use them for all of my trout fishing when using a team of flys makes it realy easy When you buy them they are loose in the pack and buggers to pick up/out of the pack take your time at home to thread them onto a safety pin. then when you are in a boat or on a windy bank you can just thread it on tie your knot open the pin and continue. realy handy you can use stiffer line dor dropers and they then stand out preventing twist. give it a go

Tie about six foot of leader to your fly line ,Tie the heavier fly on the end of the line go back up the line about 3 foot ,Pinch the line and pull about six inch of leadder over two fingers ,loop the leadder round your fingers ,Pass the end of the leader you have just made the loop with through the loop three times and pull tight you should have a loop on the the leadder cut one end of the loop and tie your second fly on .

Say you want a 4x end. You'll start with a 2x, attach it to a 3x, then your 4x.
