Norton is like a plant root, it roots itself deep into your computers system and files so that any changes that a virus might try are caught and once this happens the location of the virus is also determined allowing it to be deleted or quarantined. The downside to all of this is that it uses a lot of system resources and the anti virus program itself can be a right pain to uninstall should the situation arise.

cheers Callum

Norton does get so far into your system it slows it down and it doesn't get the worst virus's ..none of them do ..trust me when you get a boot sector virus in your bios which trashes your motherboard first and proceeds to overwrite your hard drive second you'll wonder what you paid for. If you have a genuine copy of windows get microsoft security essentials its as good as anything out there and not too harsh on your system ..use firefox with web of trust and look for the dodgy sites that do harm and always scan any attachments in your e-mail no matter who they are from

Do you lads rate this norton i paid £30 last year [bANNED TEXT] i bought the pc and they told me i would need it but have never installed it because i was told it slows the computer down?

Hi mate

To not use an antivirus software is maddness, if you don't like the sound of norton I recommend Kaspersky which is one of the best but you have to pay for it. Alternatively AVG is ok, Macafee is a pile of rubbish in my opinion and Norton should be pretty good as well.

One trick to keep you safe is to set up a second account which does not use admin rights. What this will do is stop any auto-executable files (EXE files) from being inadvertantly run. Most people run their computers on admin without realising the risks. I appreciate it can be a pain in the arse to switch user when you want to install a program but your day to day use will generally be internet and a handful of programs that are already installed.
