CarraghsGem 92
dont think there is a "best breed of terrier" we all have our own preferences + it depends on your quarry, me- i prefer the patterdale. Quote Link to post

CarraghsGem 92
my favourite breed is the patterdale but i also have had border terriers + fox terriers in the past but didnt like them; they arent forward going enough for my taste, right now i have a patterdale - hes working, also have a lakie x patt bitch but she isnt old enough for a trial run yet. dogman71 1
IV JST STARTED WORKING TERRIERS WHAT DO YOU THINK IS THE BEST ALL ROUND WORKING TERRIER? id say lakeland or patterdale then russels make good allrounders but lakes and pats are keener for groundwork and easier to enter, ive got a patt,a lakey and a russell i like them all,had borders years ago and never rated them myself very temperamental and sulky, atb Quote Link to post

hedz31 1,308
i started of with russels when i was a kid, but ive had the same family of black rough coated fell types now for the last 17 years or patterdales if you like and i only use them for earth work really ive never really been into ratting etc,all different breeds and types have slightly different styles of working and a different attitude to there type of work and quarry but there is no set standard in each breed you cant say right a russel is just a baying type and a lakeland is a hard type because its not so you get some hard russels and you do get some half sensible lakelands knowing a line or strain of a type can help a great deal and you do get none starters in all breeds and types that is fact regards hedz Quote Link to post
