As previous posters have said, they need meat. Ferrets are obligate carnivores ! James Wellbeloved does a decent extruded pellet which soaks just fine. If you've no fresh kill to supplement their foo

i have a very young kit here. bread and milk would be the last thing i would give it. compleat ferret food soked in warm water till its soft is great for the little ones. fresh raw chicken bits or beef. i do give mine a small bowl of kitten milk that you can get in tesco, but fresh water is a must and if they are very small use a dish as kits can find the bottle hard to use .

im rearing mine on whole dog-chewed rabbit and whole roosters that are regularly given to me. ran out of both yesterday so slaughtered an old spare drake for them, cut it in half and split it between the 2 hutches as im keeping my 2 adults seperate from the 3 kits

If you've no fresh kill to supplement their food, then ask your butcher for off cuts, or a bit of sheep heart [ ours gives us this stuff for free ]

i only got them yesterday and asked the bloke who sold them to me what he had them on, and that is what he told me he was using. i came on here asking for advise, i can assure you im no idiot, i dont wana be giving them crap that is why in my origional post i asked what is the BEST thing to feed them. i dont give my dogs tinned food so i wasnt 100% about giving tinned food to the kits.

i will get a complette ferret nut in the morning. should all the meat they get be raw? or should i partially cook it?? when i give them trapped birds, should these be gutted and plucked??

thanks

i would give them the birds whole and raw myself, but remember to worm them regularly like you would a dog or cat.

also i wouldnt ever feed them any pork (heard it was harmful to ferrets)

i also wouldnt feed them beef;- it wouldnt be on the menu to them in the wild

i see no harm in feeding them the occasional raw egg though, make a small hole in it and they have great fun, breaking into the egg. atb gem.
