Hi all,i have asked this question before and still haven,t got an answer, maybe im stupid, but why are strong dogs "ie staffs" being excluded from so many shows,in Ireland.I was at a show today, brought my staff with me, even though there was no class for him,it was just a day out.I tried to put him in the large pets class ,with the hope of winning a bag of nuts ,but was refused.I was told what if he snapped at something,i said this was a dog show and any dog there could snap at another dog.Maybe im missing the bigger picture, thanks Jelly Ps the flyer did say no strong dogs, but the dog that won the small pets class was a staff pup,3 month old.

your dead right pal and your staffs are top notch .I reckon its because some arse holes dont know how to handle strong dogs but lads like yourself should be allowed to show their dogs

i've been at lots of shows up north with strong dogs and only ever seen 1 incident (a lead broke) and i've only ever seen 1 glen at a show down south and it was stuck to a beagle, any dog can snap, its shite strong dogs are banned

jelly the day in kilkenny the man that had the beagle was told to pull it away because it was growling at glen he didnt listen there a certain crowd dont want the big dogs at the shows they seem to have the say

but anyone can walk around with a rottwiler plus the hav classes for bull hounds one of theses day we wont be left bring workers p.s remenber the good old days in kilmeaden with the likes of ed reid and rb judging strongdogs ken gould joe heffern terrier

You hit the nail on the head,it could have been any dog at that show in kilkenny that bit that beagle, but its a certain few that dont keep strong dogs that are keeping them out,it just annoys me,jelly

i heard the reason they dont like pitts + staffies at gamefairs is because a small minority bring them off for dog fights elsewhere on the premises, its a case of ban them all because of the actions of a few!

thats a load of bollocks there never been any dog fighting at any shows think what ur saying

Don't think you should be posting that craic on this open forum carraghs. On the topic there was a strong dog class at the mourne show and it was well run and some good animals at it with responsible owners. On the other hand you can get a group of clowns with their lacoste tracksuits and peak hats arrive swigging from their green bottle with their strongdogs and it just doesn't look good in the organisers eyes. Same as everything the minority destroy it for the majority. :wallbash:

Use to be good strong dog classes every year at the Tandragee show and couple of other shows throughout the country,

being honest with yous lads i think if i had strong dogs now days i would be reluctant to bring them to a show ,im only going back six years ago we had a good team of strong dogs both wheatens and staffs at the Tandragee show ,we had the usual clowns asking stupid questions and wanting to take photos of the strong dogs .Where these photo,s could end up nobody knows .Maybe im just being security consious but lads sometimes whats in your own back yard is best staying there without unsavoury characters knowing what you have and make their own decision of what you do by them seeing you at a show with strong dogs .Cheers .
