UFC 116 Lesnar v Carwin

I understand what gnasher is saying, yes Brock is a awesome athlete but you should not be top of the tree in such short order regardless. He beat Randy another awesome athlete but a smaller man, he could not have beat any Heavyweight boxing champ in that time frame though, even Tyson came up through the ranks. It does make a joke of MMA and i am a fan.

But he didn't just walk of the street and be the world champion, he was a famous wrestler and world class athlete already. All he had to do was train in a way to fight for real instead of fannying around slapping each other. Plenty big strong boys never made anything of themselves so to say he has just done it with brute force is a bit strange.

Guys, getting in the cage dosnt take heart, its there chosen arena...a F1 racing car driver gets into his Car...a Tennis player goes on a court...a football player laces his boots up...a mma fighter does his job in a cage...if you guys want to talk about heart, lets talk about guys like Kazushi Sakarab, never been tapped out in mma, fights guys hundreds of pounds larger than himself, beat four Gracie family members, he fought Royce Gracie for 1hr and 30min!!...he took SIXTY knees to the face from Ricardo Arona in one fight...THATS HEART!..

Brock Lesnar got the chance he did, because of the fan base ($$$$) he would bring with him,...nothing more...people can talk about technique all they want, and of course you need it!...but its hard to do an arm bar on someone that freakishly big and strong...imo, i totaly agree with Gnasher, it has made a mockery of the sport!! But can anyone name a sport where being a tremdously gifted athlete WONT help you in a chosen sport!?...Brocks never played in the NFL, yet he does the NFL qualifer (a series of athletic tests) as a WARM-UP before he starts training!...people dont realise how good an athlete he is!...there are VERY few people in the world that can do what he can do, with as much strength, size, stamina and raw power...i bet there isnt a 1000 people on the WHOLE planet!...

Of course he will be beaten,...he will get beat buy someone who has good technical striking, and who hits hard...once that person gets respect from Brock with his hands, Brock will want to revert back to his original style (wrestling) it is VERY hard to wrestle someone who is smacking you in the face, especially when you are very scared of that kind of fighting, as Brock is...this will mentaly affect Brock. it will make him rethink his take-downs, and as soon as a wrestler has to THINK before he shoots, he is f****d...then the opponent will be able to pick him apart...imo.

fair enough so he got a title shot early on but he,s not exactly sat on it fighting bums for the next 10 years like they do in other sports(thats a joke) mir and carwin are extremely dangerous big lads. dont think its a mockery of the sport because he,s been able to do what he,s done, he already had great wrestling skills something thats served the likes of matt hughes well throughout his career.

i hear couture at 47 :icon_redface: is fighting james lightsout toney how do you see that going?

MMA-Mixed Martial Arts....why is it wrong that Brock fights to his strenghs, each and every fighter has one and his happens to be wrestling which helps him floor his opponent and then GNP :boxing:

Hes a machine of a man and deserves the crack he has got and he has taken it and ran.

Oh and i'd love to be a football player, would be a dream come true for a shot in a f1 car but believe me it would be my worst f*****g nightmare to be stuck in a very small cage with a guy like that when it is legal to break my arm or leg or smash my face to a pulp..........believe me it takes heart and thats the reason you dont see alot of strong men going into the mma

Do not doubt his heart, any man that steps into a ring or cage has my respect. Toney is a shot fighter but it will only take one punch to turn that fight on its head, Mercer dd it against Sylvia. Lesnar is a great wrestler, awesome g&p and a genetic freak but he should not be beating the best MMA has to offer. Its like great squash player winning at Wimbledon, should not be happening. Regardless of his loss to Werdum i think Fedor would destroy Lesnar, Overreem too. Shame they are not in the UFC

IMO, Fedor would get DESTROYED buy Lesnar...

I like Fedor, but he has fought just two good fighters, Nog, and Cro-Cop...and look what happened to them when they fought in the UFC and couldnt use there "supplements" ..lol...sad fact is, Fedor has fought Cans/Bums his whole career.

Fedor and his people KNOW what would happen, hence why they made such outlandish requests for his fight contract, so that the UFC HAD to turn him away, and they could save face...Fedor at BEST is a 205'er...there is no doubt in my mind, he could make 185lbs...Silva has talked about wanting to fight Fedor, and imo, Anderson would smash him inside of a round and a half.

Beleave me, the last thing on a fighters mind when he enters a Cage/Ring, is his opponent...thats if he has trained correctly, and can look that guy in the eye, and tell himself "Ive trained the best i can, looked after my diet, and im prepaired"...if he cant say that to himself, hes f****d...lol.

In my exsperiance, most fighters fear success, letting there team/loved ones down, they fear the crowd, the cameras etc...

Hey Jay,

Totally agree about Fedor, his more recent fights were against a washed up Tim Sylvia, an ageing Mark Coleman and Andrei Arlovski, Coleman almost pulled it off and Arlovski had Fedor in big trouble and these are fighters who can't hack in with the top heavyweights. Don't know about you Jay but I still think Couture at his age would defeat Fedor? Send me a pm for a chat big boy

I have every respect for mma fighters and the sport in general...but i truly believe these type of contests do a lot of damage to the sport.

Ticket sales and freak show entertainment value should NEVER be the reason to put a fight on.....the best should fight the best to prove who the best is....simple as that....the minute you start to compromise the competetive element to any sport you hurt that sport.

Kimbo.....Lesnar.....Pudzianowski now James Toney.....all men who are walking into a sport at the very highest level to put bums on seats and sell tickets....i think its a shame the way the sport is being sold out like this.Who cares if Couture beats Toney or Toney knocks him spark out, these freak show fights do the sport a lot of harm particularly to the honest genuine lads like the fella Kye on here who has obviously started at the bottom and worked up through dedication, knowledge and hard work......to then see a big name in a completely different sport stroll in and fight at the top level must be gut wrenching, thats without the damage fights like these do to the sport in itself.....

Boxing still remains a sport of class and you would never see this type of thing where a guy turns up from another sport fighting at world level just to sell tickets, thats something i feel will always keep boxing above the likes of mma it is still a true and honest sport in that way.....in fact is there any other sport where this type of thing could take place,i dont think there is.....if Theo Walcott suddenly decided to be a 100 metre runner just because he,s a quick kid he would have to start at the bottom and prove himself worthy before competing against the worlds elite, and thats how it should be.

Just my few pence worth

Gnasher, i love mma..its been my life for going on 7 years now...its been a strange mistress to me though!...more of a love/hate thing!..lol..i will always LOVE boxing, and having competed in boxing events, i have a huge respect for the sport, and love it even more,...fighters like Dempsey, Tyson, Marciano, the real 'up-and-at-'em' fighters, these are guys that i love to watch footage of, and i just love how they FIGHT!..truly a GREAT sport.

To see a guy like GSP, or Anderson Silva dismantle a dangerous opponent, with relative ease, or a stand up war, against two gritty guys like the first time Bonner and Griffin fought, is realy an awesome sight to see.

As Gnasher has said...to have a meat-head come into the sport, wave his arms around, and smash people, is, to say the least, f*****g horrible!..

Seeing Carwin clobber Brock and then to see a man of Brock's size and strength almost run away holding his face didn't make for great viewing.

He wasn't even knocked to the canvas he just dropped to the deck in fear of being punched. Carwins G'N'P wasn't great either, he burns himself out throwing a load of shots that aren't landing clearly, most of which were arm punches as well.

To be fair Brock had been out for ages but I hope to see better from him in the future.
