danr 0
Hey all, Perhaps a stupid question but what do you do with critters once you've shot them? I understand rabbits and pigeons are food but what about squirrels, other birds etc... Do you just chuck them for the foxes? Quote Link to post

markha 99
Ah beat me to it - so will have to use the trusted advice " dig hole - put dead body in - fill with quick lime - cover hole - go to pub" Squirrel, rabbit, pigeon, magpie all good to eat if slow cooked and put in a pie - bloody yummy. The only thing I leave in the fields is the stomach, intestines and lungs. Liver, heart, brains and other stuff just add to the flavour I keep the fur for making winter gloves. Ive eaten some pretty rank things in my time, crow tastes about as bad as can be, so they just go in the refuge bin. Fox is ok if you beat the hell out of the meat before cooking. Have a check around for your local game dealer - as they may well buy little bunnies and pigeons off you Quote Link to post

rossy08 33
there is one other option that hasent been added, iv started doing it resently. any skinny wabbit squirrel pigion or other mankay bird for that matter now meet a 4f 7' white throwet monitor lizard. or big ass snake. the montiors will eat any thing even if its been dead a week. should have some pics of the big bad boy eating some off the wabbit i gave to owner the other day soon. ask in your local reptile shop if they can make use of them, they will want to no when it was shot and maybe do some swabes of it, that and where abouts the pellet is. just another way of making use of them. matt_hooks 188
I'll eat just about anything I shoot. Squirrel is just like rabbit. Hare and the like are brilliant meat. My next project is rabbit haggis. I always leave the pluck in when I field gut, heart, lungs, liver and kidneys, then they come out when I get home and are bagged separately. Any parts that I can't eat go in the dogs food. He likes nothing better than a bunny skull or some legs to chew on, and a deer leg is super treat time! Rats are bagged and binned, carry too many diseases to leave lying about. Pigeons either get gutted, plucked and roasted, including doves and countryside ferals. Town pigeons get the same treatment as rats. Basic philosophy is to eat as much as possible, bones and such make great stocks for sauces and gravies, not much you can't use. A friend takes all the furs and makes dog toys out of them, great for training! Quote Link to post
