Malt 379
Rabbit slayer, the pheasant is no surprise, they're bigger and all together a tougher prospect, hence why they're not on the legal quarry list for air rifle in the uk! There is no legal quarry list for air rifles, just guidelines containing suggested air rifle quarry... Stick to the guidelines and your ass is pretty much covered with regards to wounding instead of killing, not so with other quarry. However, that doesn't mean it's illegal to kill them cleanly with an air rifle.... Edited July 9, 2010 by maltenby 1 Quote Link to post

jasper65 6
Was out Roost shooting with the shottys a few years back and litteraly Peppered a pigeon as it dropped in, to my surprise is somehow picked its self up as it tumbled and flew out of the wood before dropping, my pals dog retreived it and brought it back and it was smashed, I plucked the chest and the bloody thing was like a pin cushion! to this day I still am lost as to how this bird managed to fly out of the Danger zone before dropping........... Funny how somthing like this sticks in your crop after all these years ............. Quote Link to post
matt_hooks 188
Sorry Ron, but a non fac air rifle is not suitable for shooting pheasants. You certainly increase the risk of wounding, which leaves you at risk of a "causing unnecessary suffering" charge. It comes down to respect for the quarry. If you're not sure you, and your kit, are capable of bringing about a quick humane death then, legal or not, you shouldn't pull the trigger! Quote Link to post

Sorry Matt, I dont agree with all you say there buddy The bit in Blue; I and 99.999 percent of respectable decent hunters will agree with 100% However a sub 12 is perfectly capable of dropping a Pheasant when in season at nominal airgun ranges That has been proven time and time again by many hunters on here. May I draw your attention to this as advertised on this very forum: http://www.darcybooks.com/advancedairgun.html Phantom PS if anyone wishes to purchase this book for me as a late birthday gift, I'll PM you my address and give you a slut point on your next 100 posts even if they are crap Quote Link to post

I have to disagree, but that isn't really what I was getting at. In my original response to you, where I said 'that's not strictly true', I was referring to your mention of legal quarry list. But I agree with everything that Phantom says above. However, I've never shot a pheasant with an airgun, and times would have to be very hard before I did! Quote Link to post
