Broken cocking lever

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

If you have read my hunting post which ended in this problem occuring then you will know what I am talking about.

Its at the end of the post but you can read all of it if you like!!

http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/160272-not-all-stories/

So here are some pictures. Its heavily greased up so hard to see.

After a crack the lever arm was loose and no longer connected to where it was before. However I cant see a fresh break, nor can I understand what held it in place before.

In one of the pictures im holding it back in place and cannot understand how it once sat in there.

To me it looks like bad news as the peice it slots into seems to be attached to something else, meaning a whole new set of parts?

Really not happy about this! Its just been fully tuned so I'm gutted this has happened.

Here are the picture, advice neeeded.

Hello mate,

Exactly the same thing happened to a friend of mines rifle... his was an underlever SMK, rather than a weihrauch though. In his case nothing had actually broken, it had just become seperated for some reason. All I did was took the under-lever cocking arm mechanism off of the end where it was still attached to give myself a bit more room to work with, then simply slotted it back in to position. Re attaching the cocking arm was a little fiddley but nothing too demanding. As for the mystery nut... I have absolutely no idea!! Did it definitely come out of the mechanism? It appears to be suspicously clear of grease (...unless you cleaned it?).

What happened to my mates rifle might be all that has happened to yours, if so it shouldn't be too difficult to put right. It might be worth getting the person who tuned it for you to have a look at it though just to make sure it doesn't happen again - there must have been a reason why it happened.

I hope you get it sorted,

Nath

Cheers for reply mate. I spoke to Tony rom Sandwlel Fieldsport and he said send it in but sounds like its a easy to replace part that sits around that area. Can't remember then term he used though.

Will keep you informed.

Cheers.

Hi, Jack.

Great post, mate and terrible luck!!

The bit that's broken's the cocking shoe (OOO-ERRR!!), the linkage sits in it and it slides up and down the cylinder as the barrel's opened and closed. When they break they tend to just fall out of the wider part of the cocking slot at the front of the cylinder.

It's about the only weak part on HW springers, I've changed a good few over the years.

Easy fix. New shoe, tap out the pin that holds the linkage to the barrel, place the shoe into the slot, engage the end of the linkage to the shoe, line up the linkage with the barrel then tap the pin back in.

Cheers.
