ratattack 111
All my hooks are barbless and never have a problem with them, tight line and rod up and there will be no problem. Any slack and the hook can slip straight out. just takes practice Quote Link to post
Hob&Jill 258
Nope I use them and im fine. I dont think they do any less damage as the coarse hook barbs are so small but its so much easier and quicker to sort out. Quote Link to post

watchman 256
bought some barbles hooks yesterday and went off carp fishing fishing away got some nice carp on..and they just kept on comming off then today i went mullet fishing and same again had 2 nice fish and yep both come off right in front of me are barbles hooks just rubbish any info the trouble with waters that insist on barbless hooks is that you tend to feel at a disadvantage from the start for the exact reasons you have said, from my own experience i have lost a few big fish over the years and put it down to the barbless hook but then lost a few with barbed hooks as well but still doesn't give great confidence in them,as said the trick is to keep the rod up,pressure on at all times which is easier said than done if a fish is bolting toward you and your playing catch up.i use 3oz leads which seem to help in keeping the pressure on. imo they are worse than barbed because they seem to rotate on the hold therefore causing more damage to the fish than barbed,iv had to use my carp care kit on their lips more so than when using barbed also. the smaller and livelier the fish, like the mullet for example, which are a great fish to catch on light tackle, the more chance of losing it on barbless hooks, only saying from my own experience, not set in stone lol,the trick with mullet is to make sure you cover the hook completely with lets say bread for bait, this will induce a good confident take from the fish and lead to a better hook hold, Quote Link to post
PeakOil 352
I had an easy 24hrs on a runs water at the weekend using barbless hooks I had 33 runs and landed 31 fish. You have to be more careful to keep a tight line and bend in the rod, but I haven't found any noticeable difference between loosing fish on barbed or barbless hooks. However barbless hooks move round a lot more inside the fishes mouth when playing them, causing terrible damage to fish that are caught frequently. My usual carp water only allows barbed hooks to try and stop such damage happening to their fish. Quote Link to post
Leelyn 0
Have clutch set right keep in contact with fish and you should hav no probs i presume you havnt been using barbless for long hav confidence in them and you will soon get used to them tight lines Quote Link to post
droid 11
Been using barbless hooks for 10 years. Easier to get out of the fish, and easier to get out of your hand Don't get many slipping the hook. Try a different hook pattern. Some seem to get a better hookhold than others. And use spade hooks. Then the line pressure cams the hook into the fish. Quote Link to post
markandrewhiley 0
I only ever use barbless hooks, whether i buy barbed hooks and crush them or buy barbless hooks, or should i say flies with barbless hooks, but i have lost a few fish but thats down to my own fault of not keeping a tight line. bobcullen79 1,495
Never had any probs either mate, what size you using? Try matching baits up with the right size hooks or try usng a different pattern. Loving the Korda mixa hooks for bottom baits. Tight lines. Quote Link to post
