severn barbel

Recommended Posts

just to ask whether anyone has been catching barbel around iron bridge/buildwas?

i have been a couple of times now on this stretch where i have always caught plenty of decent barbel, this season i have only had one so far( lots of eels though, the ferrets love the little bootlaces!!)

been fishing worm, luncheon meat, halibut pellets, paste, corn, bread, maggot all to no avail( just the worms seem to be doing the job).

i have heard the algae is is flower/polinating,the water is unusually coloured....................

i'm happy cathing eels to be fair but wondered if anyone else is having luck with the barbel.

thanks.

hello mucker,

catching the eels in the daytime untill last light. they have been from a half to around a pound+.

the biggest i have seen come out of that stretch wa caught by my dad 11 1/2 inch girth and over 3ft long, he was well chuffed as my grandad had one almost identical stuffed a few years before!

i'm going night fishing tomorrow evening with lots of worms and luncheon meat.

i spoke to the chap at the tackle shop today and it seems to be slow on the barbel front in general( further up river they seem to be catching). i hope the rain will bring them down to my favorite spots.

yes bud i'll be there with as many nets as i can muster,at the moment i'm having trouble keeping up with the locals!!!

you need to dabble your worm more often mucker(i shall have words with mrs "earth" when i see her!)

i have tried sand eels, prawns, mussels etc and always come back to the good old lob worm.

heart and liver seem to "wash out" quite quickly.

i am considering a pva bag with chicken mince(i feed my dogs with it) and a bit of brest/leg as hook bait? ever tried that??

i hope to have some decent pics of humungous barbel, eels, chub by tomorrow morning to impress everyone with, allthough i am more likely to have a terrible sun burn, insect bites and a few bootlace eels!!!!!!!!!

tight lines and fair weather to all!
