Grommets

Recommended Posts

S, I placed a sample order for 1 with a large distribution company. It looks the same size of the ones I was given. If it's the same, they will only sell at £55/1000 grommets. But we could sell the rest on cheaply to recoup the cost.

Received the sample today and it is perfect for a 9.5 mm glass fibre pole. It takes a full clove hitch using 2 mm braid running line.

I was going to order 1000, which is the minimum order and sell them on in batches at cost + postage. But due to the small costs involved, I can't be arsed with the hassle it would cause me. Perhaps someone with a business could make a small profit or someone wouldn't mind paying £55/1000.

Here's the link to Anixter. My sample took a day to arrive and I know they are a big company so it should be pain free. It's item number 4101017

brian brinded nets i get mine from. there not the ones for putting you lines around the outside but more like a lambs tail ring that isnt bio-degradable.

i roll a grommet on then put a small piece of fish tank tubing over the bottom of pole and then tie a hitch over it with the bottom line. i pull the grommet up with a twist and then back over end of pole and tube. this locks the bottom line to the tube that sits on the pole.

with a couple of turns of electrical tape just off the bottom of the pole the tube will not slip off.

some of the grounds i work on a night are soft, others are hard so with this tube on the bottom the net will slide up the pole as i push into ground. it does not slide up as rabbit hits net. when i pick up net i just slide the tube back again

I do have them on another net I have, but I find they snag too much!

Sounds like you're using the wrong ones....you can buy tiny thin cable ties from Screwfix.....about 6" long, very thin and mega strong.....never had any trouble at all, not one single snag.
