Ferret behaviour

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I've got a pair of poly ferret sisters from the same litter, their 3 yr old and not in season, before the heat wave and now ongoing, since I've made them a lovely new hutch/court to run round in one of the jill's is constantly gently tugging the scruff of her sister, pulling fur out of her neck and generally harassing her, pulling her around. Their Ok together and do not fight, just this constant scruff tugging. Sometimes she is dragging her into her little house within, to bed, with all the associated hissing with displease! Any ideas why she has started this game now (like I said it is since the move to the new hutch, and yes they were introduced to it at the same time)

Also no mites or ticks / fleas present on my ferrets

Many thanks, FF

Its hormonal behaviour usually associated with a phantom pregnancy .. you said there not in season so i assume you have either had them jabbed or they have been run with a vasectomised hob ?

Definately hormonal. I had one drag the other into bed for three weeks, now the roles are reversed. I've split them up for now as the current dragger is a bit too rough and doesn't care if she grabs by the ear, eye, whatever.

Aye hormonal its going to be a long summer once again

Thanks for the replies all, I'ts not a major concern but one I have to keep up on so she doesn't get sore. It does indeed seem to be as described above and thanks again. Not been on here for a bit, had a little layoff on the hunting front this year as busy with work over the cold winter zapped me out! Anyway, thanks again, your all stars

Little update on the behavour issues I had on the two jill's and thanks to all those who helped out, they have settled back down together now in the new hutch / run. I am amazed as they were in a large (by comparison to most other basic) hutch, but since the've moved into 'ferret palace', the hob is half his size (taking into account less winter fat), constantly leaping a foot into the air, completely fit and bazai! The girls look very well too, which seeing as the littl'un won every trophy at the game fair last year, it is comforting to know I'm able to give them the best I can. Now I cannot under estimate the importance of giving your ferrets enough room and exercise, they're lov'in it!
