Guest Jane Russell
Moving swiftly on ... I have found a friend with a bit of water she has ownership of and she's happy for me to put a trap in for crayfish -- assuming there are still some about, it's still quite mild I feel. Looks as though I will have to find out if trapping is ok etc. Will ring the relevant department tomorrow but assuming that it is ok in the river I have permission for, what kind of trap do you recommend and also have I really left it far too late this year??? Any hints and tips gratefully taken on board. Thanks Jane Quote Link to post
Paid 935
I find these plastic double ended traps the best There between £5 and £10, theres a few on ebay, or if your by the coast, some tackle shops sell them for crabing. You can also make your own, but if i were too again i would make an entrance at both ends and maybe do a better job :-) I have found the best bait to be rabbit feet or legs, as there easy to tie in, and dont break up. Everytime I used fish, there was always nothing left of the fish when i lifted the traps, and fewwer crayfish. Quote Link to post

Paid 935
I chuck em in, on a string in the evening while walking the dogs, and check them the next evening while walking the dogs, and either take the whole trap home if i have enough, or empty rebait and reset, to be checked again the next evening, so i leave them in for 24 hours. whin 463
jane ive caught and fished for lobbys for years simliar to a crayfish you could make traps out of rabbit mesh the bigger the trap the more crayfish .have two eyes in them and a parlour thats another trap inside the trap easy to make .take alook at any harbour and design your traps on them, but smaller mesh etc or buy some , use bait bags so they cant strip the flesh of put a few bits of bait loose and fil a piece of netting up tie it like a sock, had several lobbys in traps like what i am trying to explain , i would like to trap crayfish sounds fun plus i know how to make good traps ,one more thing set traps at dusk and lift before daylight as the beggers can escape ,well lobsters do , all the best paid the plastic traps work well i have bigger traps than the one youve put in the diagram, but the same principal , what you need is a double eyed trap with a parlour at one end which is a partition with another eye or entrance they go in the entrance then into th eparlour no more escapees etc all the best Quote Link to post
Guest Jane Russell
It's gotta be worth a few laughs on here for some people if I make a trap! Maybe i'll catch a few crayfish too. I'll see how my craft skills hold up over the weekend. Work has gone crazy so I don't have as much free time Jane Quote Link to post

Guest Jane Russell
As I understand it they hole up. So I know I'm cutting it rather fine. The weather has been mild up until today. I think I have probably missed the boat for this year. Gives me plenty of time to perfect my traps of course. Anyone else notice a very obvious dip in temperature today or is it just me getting too used to having the central heating on? Jane Quote Link to post
