subwoofer 13
I have always been involved in shooting sports and I hold an FAC and SGC and hunt on a local farm. Personally I started with an air rifle and moved onto fac rifle and pistol after that. What I have been wondering is how others get involved in shooting (with FAC and shotgun rather than air guns) and how we can encourage them to be involved without breaking any laws. The specific reason for this question is that I have a friend who would like to come along on one of my rabbiting trips and experience taking a rabbit before deciding if he will invest fully in all the equipment. I would rather give him the full experience of using a .22LR rifle or shotgun (while being entirely responsible as I am mentoring him). Does the law allow mentoring a new shooter using an FAC or shotgun as long as they are not left unattended in possession of the gun? I could just start him off with an air rifle, but it is not quite the same. Has anyone had a similar situation, and what did you do? Of course while you are in a remotish spot would anyone know if you handed over your rifle/shotgun to a non-certificate holder for a couple of shots? I have taken friends to commercial clay grounds who are more than happy for me to mentor people I bring (but they have some special certification to allow for non-SGC holders to use a shotgun). Being asked to clear vermin for the land owner I am their 'servant' in this undertaking and will of course check with them that they are happy for me to supervise someone else shooting on their land. jackinbox99 41
Slightly different for me, but ive got a few friends into clay pigeon shooting by taking them along with me, introducing them to the gun safety and rules of clay shooting etc... then letting them use my gun whilst im with them. They have all loved it and some have gone off and got their own SGC`s now. Quote Link to post
