romany52 313
let it bite him on the noes - he wont go near it tom !! That 'll work ! provided the terrier is absolutely useless, if the terrier is any good it'll make it want the ferret even more ! Quote Link to post

jac 12
just give the dog lots of exsposure, take the dog to watch you cleen them and feed them . or let a ferret lose in the house and keep dog on lead so you can tell him no if he gets ruff. the more time the dog spends with the ferrets the better . my dog tried to kill my ferrets at first but now they can dance rings around the dog and it just sits there . comanche 2,988
Might be a bit obvious but teach the dog the meaning of the word "NO" If its not been taught basic obedience before it meets livestock of any kind there could be problems ... Once you've calmed it down a bit and its attention is on you rather than every potential bit of prey you are in with a chance . Then show that the ferret is something that is yours and that you don't want the dog to interfere with it just as you don't want it nicking your dinner or ripping your best shoes up.Somehow you've got to make the ferret appear as part of the everyday boring scenery rather than something to be singled out as a special target .Easier said than done but your dog is only a well-grown puppy and there is still time to go right back to elementary training as if he was still only few weeks old .Plenty of walks on the lead, steadyness to pets and livestock and recall training rather than letting him scamper about doing his own thing might help him realise that he should be doing your thing !. Possibly easy for me to say but maybe some food for thought . Good luck . All the best . Edited June 30, 2010 by comanche Quote Link to post
