I think it helps when you get a new pup, you would be able to look back and see what age your last dog did what at what age and match it with your current. Saying that....that might turn out to be a disadvantage if your new recruit is not performing as quick as the last. Al just keep dodging away as i am, maybe just been lucky up till now Quote Link to post

Infact all off the problems i have encounterd with this lab have been down to handler error and once ive realised this i could of screamed. Dave C 63
I do keep basic hunting / shooting notes in a book season by season, i also put in mile stones that each dog i train crosses and how the perform when i start working them, this can be handy when bringing on a young dog to see if its on track against others i have trained at the same age, but you have to remember that all dogs are different and mature at different rates, so compairing to much is not always the best thing. Good luck with her training. ATB Dave. Quote Link to post

Good luck with her training. ATB Dave. no dog will train at the same rate, some are simular but never the same. personally i think that contributes to 3 factors. i may be very wrong but this is my opinion. 1, is the attitude and mood of the trainer. 2, is the temperement and attitude of the dog. 3, is the weather!!! the things in a trainers daily life can alter the trainers mood and make them train in a different way. have less patience , or be distracted, or change their aggresion from soft to over aggresive. all this affect a dogs training and the way they think about their work. secondly the dogs attitude and temperment can be a big factor if the dog is having an off day and the trainer presures them for results then that will result in only 1 thing!! the trainer gettin pissed off and the dog gettin ruind. the dog is not a robot!!! flick a switch and its on!! 3rdly i have noticed that my dogs have learned alot more in a steady weather and not in strong winds and rains. i find wind and rain to be a distraction not for me but for the dog. they seem to want to rush the training and get home.
