malce 0
Well the you go, I have a very nice BSA Sportsman 15, it is very accurate, it is a bit fussy about the make of bullets and seems to prefer Eley, it is easy to use and as the name suggest holds 15 rounds which does save having to change magazines that only hold 5 rounds, mine is converted to take a scope with also a bipod holder and sling swivels, I use it for rabbbits etc in the day, and a CZ at night with night vision. andyf 144
Hi: The good old BSA Sportsman 'range' of 22's were the 'CZs' of the 50's and 60's. I have never owned one but I've shot loads of stuff with my schoolmates dads gun back then in the mid 1960's, very good little gun for it's day. They are the build quality of a half decent springer airgun, mass produced with iron sights, the box magazine type had a tendency for the Mag floor plate to fall off dumping the guts of the mag and the remaining shells in the grass! DOH! So spare magazines are literally 'Gold dust' and change hands for silly money in the USA particularly where owning a cupboard full of collectable .22's is OK (Wish it was here). There was also a tube mag version holding 15 rounds (hence 'Sportsman 5' and 'Sportsman 15', get it?). Also I have seen a number of 'posh' versions with Walnut stocks instead of Beech, and even some 'fancy' aftermarket peep sights, the later and last versions had the receiver grooved for a scope, the main reason is that scopes were not really available in a 'cheap' form until the mid 60's, even Stalking rifles commonly used iron sights until the early 60's. Anyway, they are perfectly good, and can be had for £75.00 up to about £200 for a very good top end 15' (See Guntrader UK). But in reality if your on a budget get a BRNO/CZ, much better rifle, Spare mags are freely available and will be threaded for a moddy. Nice little guns but only that. Andyf Quote Link to post
