stroller 341
Went down to my mates fields tonight but called round to another paddock that has a few on first and took two from it in a matter of minutes, 1 of which was from about 5 yards it just popped out then fell over with a lead inbalance. My mate colin was working spreading nitrogen on the fields with rabbits bouncing all around him, so he came over and had a bit chat we stopped now and again for me to take aim and i shot 4 using his landrover as a rifle rest. all comes to all a local farmer is swamped with rabbits and wants me to come and sort them out but he has to get the ok from the keeper first so fingers crossed it works out. Two of these rabbits tonight were pregnant and i must admit i dont like killing rabbits in summer, it is distasteful having to kill pregnant does and i know if i didnt do it someone else would and i would have no winter sport. But this is purely pest control and i have to remind myself about that. andyfr1968 772
Good luck with the new permission, Stroller. I know what you mean about does at this time of year, I've just scored a new shoot over an ornamental garden that's being hammered by bunnies and shooting each and every rabbit that shows just don't feel right but like you say, someone else will jump in if I don't do it. There's a large wood next door and I'm hopeing to get permission there so I've got to show willing. Cheers. Quote Link to post

andyz 30
Stroller good luck getting that new permission and yes as you said if you don't do the job someone else would love to! Although its not nice shooting a pregnant doe you need to remember these people are asking for our help because they have a problem and not just so we can have a bit of sport! Its just very handy and nice that it goes hand in hand! ATB, Andy Quote Link to post

Phantom 631
I don't mind shooting the pregnant doe's as all my permissions are erradication jobs; Apart from one, now its shoot what I want when ever I want What I don't like shooting is young kits But like you Stroller, we have to take the Professional attitude on clearance jobs Phantom Quote Link to post

peeps_76 17
I don't mind shooting the pregnant doe's as all my permissions are erradication jobs; Apart from one, now its shoot what I want when ever I want same as me all my rabbit shooting is clearance for farmers. shoot them or no permission! What I don't like shooting is young kits But like you Stroller, we have to take the Professional attitude on clearance jobs Phantom one of the farmers was driving me about in the landy when i spotted a rabbit. pulled out of the shot and said to him "its just a baby hardly even quarter sized"........ swears curses red faced and very p****d off to say the least. "shoot the rabbit or get off my land" was all that he managed to say between swears. took me a good while to calm him down. never passed up a bunnie shot on his land after that! regards and good hunting P Quote Link to post
pointer 543
I kill young rats most weeks and young rabbits fairly often. Its either pest control or a case of the dogs catching the odd thing on summer walks.I dont see a problem with it.Mind i have met people who only seem to hunt in the summer months, they do annoy me a bit. A few years ago i spent quite alot of time shooting rabbits during july and august in a moorland area,i enjoyed it at the time but i have no desire to do it again. In such areas you expect to take good numbers in just a couple of hours before the insects do your head in and you go home. These days id rather spend my time at this time of year with a fishing rod in my hand rather than a gun.
