With the other half and my son away to her aunties local galaday, i decided to go shooting on one of my permissions to let me get a few bunnys for to feed the ferrets.

I went to my permission and to get there is a 45 min drive but i know there are a lot of rabbits there as i take about 600 over the winter months with the ferrets, any way i got there and hadn't bothered trying my gun out on some targets first as i seen a nice big bunny straight away and decided to go for it, still in my 4x4 at this time so i loaded the gun and took aim and missed, i didn't see where the pellet went and the rabbit stayed, so reloaded the gun and fired again this time i seen my pellet had missed by about 4" high and 2" to the left. so made adjustment to the scope and fire again, this time mr bunny had had enough and ran off im sitting in my car wondering how this could be then i set up a couple of targets and did some practise shooting, they were all over the place,so checking the gun out i noticed that the two screws that hone the barrel down were coming loose, and not having an allen key with me i thought it was game over as i knew the land owner was not in, but on leaving the land he turned into his drive and stopped to ask how i got on and when i told him he was kind enough to give me an allen key to tighten the screws, then after some target shooting i was ready to go.

first field is normally full off rabbits but there were none in sight as the land owner had moved his cattle into this field and it was early afternoon, so parked the 4x4 and decided to walk around, nothing to be seen but crows so me being me i can never resist trying to shoot these crafty buggers and with the gun just being reset i decided to go for it, as soon as i lifed the gun they all flew off leaving just the one, well it won't be flying anywhere now. then further along i spot two rabbits sitting out side there holes almost nose to nose i lifted my gun and aimed it at the biggest of the two and when i shot it the other one just stayed and looked around then started to wash its face, maybe mums blood had hit it, but this bunny was also soon to join it's mum lying flat out, then next to a bit oak tree i see an other young rabbit sitting took aim and bang 3 in the bag and was getting excited as my gun seemed to be hitting target like it had never done before, 3 rabbits dead and all 3 were shot where i piut the cross hair on them ie right through the eye, after getting my 4th rabbit i decided to head back to my 4x4 and as i did a bit of driving i seen a rabbit about 20yrds away took aim out the window and hit it right behind the eye, now this rabbit was what i would call a super rabbit it ran round in circles for a good 30 secs before i could get an other shot at it i looked through the scope and seen where the first pellet had entered, then i hit it again just in front of the ear, thinking it was dead i went over to pick it up and it was doing flips all over the place so quickley despatched it the as i drove down the drive on my was home i noticed the cows had moved from the first field and there were alot of bunnies about, but not wanting to have to drive all the way back to get in to the field i took the gun out the bag and loaded it with an other pellet as there was 3 bunnies sitting next to some nettles but as soon as i too aim the ran, anyway i was needing a pish by this timne and not watching what i was doing as too busy watching the rabbits i flicked it out only for it to be stung on the head by nettles, that was about half 4 and still feel it, so bak into the 4x4 having a fag one of the bunniys jump back out so took aim and bang yipe it was dead.

my gun is a bsa tactical xl with a whitetail classic scope with a one piece mount.

here is end of day pics i took picture on my phone at the time but could't upload them so here the catch when i got home.

Good going Wullie, a decent bag after a troublesome start  .

I wouldnt advise going for eye shots though mate, its not very humane. Aim between the eye and bottom of the ear, about 1cm from the eye  much cleaner kill.

Well done though buddy

Nice shooting mate.....

Yes they get a bad rep, but after a full strip down and degrease to get rid of the factory grease and regreased with moly it does quieten them down and make them a lot smoother with less recoil
