hi guys ive just read that i have to mate my jills once a year , but dont have a male , do any of you know where i can get one in my area as i hope to use all three for working as long as poss ?????

it dont have to be a baby but must be hand tamed as i will be letting my little girl carry it

You've been given partly incorrect advice.

 

"They will come into season the year after they were born. The vulva enlarges and peaks at 30 days. The jill is in 'estrus'. Jills are 'induced ovulators' which means that if they are not mated she will remain in season. This can have serious even fatal consequences. She is liable to infection due to the enlarged vulva and due to the continued production of estrogen in her body can lead to bone marrow depression which leads to a form of anemia (aplastic anemia). She will have a slight musky odour during her season. It is imperative that jills are not left in season"

 

However you do not have to breed her and be left with unwanted kits. You have several choices:

 

 

You can mate her with a vesectomised hob. Look on forums to see who has a vasectomised hob in your area.

 

You can take her to a vet for the 'jill jab' This shouldn't cost anymore than £15-£20.

 

You can have her spayed but you can't do this when she is in season 'Estrus'

 

There's a few other forums around that you may be able to find a vasectomised hob if you can't get one here.

thanks [bANNED TEXT] thats helped a lot , but im still after a hob for the 2 jills plus a [bANNED TEXT] is after one of the jills so im still needing a pair .
