Rabbithunter 456
Right, there is a nice field around my permission that would be excellent for longnetting. 150 yard drop, rabbits sit well out. On occasions i have counted no less than 30 rabbits in this field. I don't want to ferret it as the bunnies back onto a massive bank which is at least 20foot deep. I never have success with snaring, as the rabbits just don't seem to hit the wires, i have on more than one occasion snared the most well used run's and still got bad result's. The most i have taken off the fence line is 5 in about 20 wires. It isn't in the darkest of area's as it is quite near the city, and although on the darkest of night's, its still not quite dark. I have netted it before and took 7 rabbits, the wind wasn't quite right but i was in the area and done it anyway. Now, as the wind is getting up just now, i'm thinking of going out about an hour after dark, running the nets down and pegging the bottom line only. Then i shall go away for an hour, sneak back in and hitch up the top line's. I seen in a particular video "lift nets" which the rabbits travel over the netting with no apparent problem's. Being the tight git i am i will not fork out for drop or lift net's, so the method i describe is the closest thing, the question is. Will it work? Watch this space, and find out if it does as that is what I'm going to find out Quote Link to post
DUCKWING 302
PERSONALLY RH , IVE NEVER USED THE DROP NETS ........... I JUST DONT LIKE THE IDEA OF LEAVING MY HARD WON NETS FOR SOME THIEVEING GIT TO TAKE AND TO BE HONEST I DONT KNOW IF THE RABBITS WOULD TRAVEL OVER THE NET AND OUT INTO THE FIELD ? .... IT WILL BE INTERESTING TO FIND OUT TO ME ............. IT SOUNDS LIKE AN IDEAL SET FOR THE GW STYLE NET , ... FAST OUT , ALL THE BEST DUCKWING Quote Link to post
Rabbithunter 456
likewise duckwing, don't like the idea of leaving money sittting in the field unattended. when i used to use quickset, it still wasn't good enough, we only got the seven. with a bit of hope, this will work. I think i will just set the nets properly, beat the field, and if nothing is ther, then i will leave them out, with the top line un-hitched. Quote Link to post

mooster 1
Must admit my first attempts at leaving the net on the ground seemed to spook the bunnies and was a desaster! What are these new types of nets like?where do you get them?how do they work? would be interested to know as my early attempts with the "old fashioned" one have been a bit of a failure! Guest thelamperman
rabbitthunter the rabbits will go over your net just make sure it right tight to the floor mate and agood windy night they will travel out Quote Link to post
Rabbithunter 456
i left the net for an hour on the ground, came back and hitched up the top line, got four for my efforts. maybe i should leave it a bit longer than an hour Quote Link to post
Guest Bigbob
Try stinking out the holes then snaring it if the rabbits are moving about on top it should give the snares a better chance Quote Link to post
Guest thelamperman
take the risk and leave it a little longer mate give them time to get right out Quote Link to post
DUCKWING 302
RABBITHUNTER , I WONDER IF A LENGTH OF OLD ROPE LEFT OUT FOR A FEW DAYS LAID IN THE POSITION YOUR NETS TO TAKE , WOULD CONVINCE THE NERVOUS RABBITS THAT IT WAS NO DANGER TO THEM ??? THEN ON A SUITABLE EVENING THE OLD ROPE COULD BE REPLACED WITH THE NET . I THINK I WOULD STILL GO THE GW ROUTE MYSELF , BUT MAYBE WORTH A TRY ALL THE BEST DUCKWING Quote Link to post
