silentshot1 206
I haven't posted much on here for a while, partly because of the lack of pigeons at the mo (I love Pigeoning with an air rifle)on the farm, partly lack of time and finally due to the fact that I'm lazy! Anyway, thought I should write something having enjoyed everyone else's write ups for so long... Having had a bad morning at work with fee's dropping like sycamore leaves and having cheered myself up a tad with the football, I set off for a wonder on the farm with both the Venom tuned HW77K .177 and the S410 .22 TDR. After an hour or so merrily plinking on a make shift target range, I decided on taking just the S410 (too hot to lug the HW77 around), so kitted up and off I went. Started by laying up on top of a down, at the field edge of a 20 meter wide strip of set aside, facing an active warren in a hedge bordering the slope of the down. Waited for nearly an hour, I could hear tell tale rustling in the hedge and grass but the grass is so tall for about 3 meters from the hedge, you can't see squat when your prone, until a bunny gets brave and makes a dash in to the shorter grass. As the sun dropped and the shadows of the hedge grew longer, the first, a young one, bolted from the long grass and headed away from me. I use an old electric fence system as markers and watched the crop robber bolt out to about 35 meters where it stopped abruptly and dropped it's head to eat some juicy dandelion stems. Time, I thought, to add another element to it's daily nutrition intake. I aimed just above the base of the ear (No mildots on scope) and let fly the AA field. Ping, SMACK! 1 in the bag! No.2, a bigger bugs, came bolting back from the corn field, clearly it had been hiding since I turned up and chose then to run. It stopped about 2 meters short of the long grass. Same again, but this was at about 25 meters so no holding required, Unleashed the leaded Nightal and SMACK! No 2 said goodbye with a half tuck. AA S410 below with a cheap and cheerful bi pod bought from the game fare for £7.50. As long as you protect your barrel, it's great! About 10 mins after, I decided to move, having seen the most healthy, sleek looking fox come passed I figured the scent would stop any more for a while. I headed about 1/4 of a mile up wind and near the bottom of the down, looking up towards a hedgeline and another known but not always active feeding ground. The first rabbit appeared after about 20 mins, with all the grace of a 20 stone ballerina. It was about 30 meters away and thumping through some longer grass like an elephant. Through the scope it looked big so I waited for it to stop and pose, which it decided wasn't it's best plan and turned away from me. As the grass ahead of it would have obscured the shot, I took it then. SMACK! AA package delivered straight to the think box, no 3 goodbye. No. 4 was a smaller bus, who was jumping in and out of view at 35 meters. I took a shot but it went way over her, she was unperturbed and carried on her merry way. The second shot caused her to start and run, right towards me! at about 28 meters I let another AA Field out for a run and POP, no 4. Sorry about picture quality in Number 3, it was about 22.15 by then. All in all, a really good night and a brilliant way to spend the last 4 hours of daylight. Next time I think I'll take the HW77, I'd never even think about missing a 35 meter shot with that, plus it irons out your laziness after getting too used to a PCP. silentshot1 206
Thanks guys for all of that and Tony for the SP. Garfield, I think the TDR get's 40 - 50 full power shots, but I've never let it drop that far as tend to top it up after each trip or if plinking, before I head in to the fields. I've just moved to AA Fields from AA Hunter, which I didn't get on with, and before that FX and Accupels. I've got to say that you can't fault AA Fields in the gun, they're pellet on pellet accurate and the shop I got them from which is usually extraordinarily over priced for everything, sells them at £7.99. you can't go wrong!
