I havent been to a show for years .. at best i simply found them to be about the '' faces'' on the scene at the time .. not really to do with the ferrets

 

I doubt its any different now .. they seem to have any tom dick or harry judging .. when i first kept ferrets & had a dabble at showing the shows were quite well attended & they didnt have a colour class for every imaginable colour .. have had some good days out but then in the 90's it got silly ... the bitching was pretty spectacular as well

 

i think todays shows are a far cry form days gone by when you had people like lez White & brynn wall judging .. it would be nice to think people like that still judge the odd show rather than some clown who just happens to have kept ferrets for a few months

what do you win if your fert gets first place?

never really paid much attention when i saw fert stalls at the game fair. stuck a fiver on a fert race at scone game show for a laugh. didnt win think it had been nobbled lol

 

You got a rosette or a small cup years ago .. they seem to do huge cups & christ knows what else now & a lot of shows have sponsers for each class so i imagine the money is just to buy the big cups & rosettes

be more practical if they gave you something you could use.maybe a bag of fert feed or carrying box something you could actually use.when i raced greyhounds they gave trophys for winning finals and such.ma old man used to throw them in the bucket "cant eat a f*****g trophy" lol

 

the scottish ferret club holds two shows a year a winter one and one at scone palace, the prizes at the winter one it your standard rosette and any thing from food to ferretone and all the best in class get a hammock too and the winner gets a shield.

the one at scone is a bigger event and the prizes there are items donated from stall holders like clothing , knifes, vouchers, hip flasks ect.

you generally get a ribbon or cup for best in show..

 

a good show will have ferret food as prizes for first place as well.

 

haven't had to buy ferret food in ages lol... we feed mostly raw meat and suppliment with the dry when its too hot or the freezer is too empty...

Once showed a poley of mine as a lad, only got second, well a sleek, strong day to day killing machine out 3-4 times a week, all day, might have dirty nails! So gave it up as some poncey fluffy perfect black eye'd white hob beat him! (looked like it was straight out of the bath, and would be surprised if it had ever seen a hole!) Are they actually showing ferrets?
