Alan Clark 7
Well I decided that I couldn't just sit at home this evening so went over to the farm, got there and found a BBQ in progress so had a couple of sausages (with pieces of chilli in them) before heading out. Missing a couple of easy shots so ended up using a fence post to check the zero, it had wandered a bit. Then after a while letting the tiny ones hop around I saw three careless woodies on the ground about 20 yards from me so I stood there waiting for one to move into a good spot to take it. Before that happened one of the horses came up behind me and started trying to eat my bag (i'd picked some elderflower blooms for wine making) so that ruined that shot because I had to move and the woodies flew. Not even 30 second later I see a rabbit about 30 yards away what is noramlly quite a wet area of the field, this time I don't give the horses time to catch up. It did a good 2.5 - 3 foot backflip, impacted the floor and didn't twitch after that. So I then wander round for another half hour before heading home, in the yard I decided to have a look into one of the barns where there are almost always feral pigeons, sure enough two of the on a beam. Well there is now one, but only because it flew away. Quote Link to post

matt_hooks 188
Ah I see it's still working then. Every time I see that gun I like it more. Wanna swap? Was the pigeon from the old barn next to the blue house? It really does look like an exact replica of the bunny doesn't it, even got a dark patch at the "muzzle". Maybe the bunny was laid down there first and then moved? Quote Link to post
Alan Clark 7
Could we say the rabbit bit the dust then? Yep, the pigeon was from the old barn by the blue house, two sat side by side on a beam so I took the right hand one, it fell over and dropped off the back of the beam with a floppy neck. Took it out again yesterday looking for woodies and crows and didn't get anything. There were a couple of magpies that must have had very close calls and a couple of woodies which again had close encounters. I checked the zero and had to slightly adjust it, sat in a holly bush for an hour waiting for a corvid to come and peck at the remains of the bunny but nothing showed so then turned round to see two woodies just outside of the bush in the next field. I went for a heart shot and missed the bird completely argh :realmad: ... rechecked the zero to find it had wandered again, it always seems to do it just after I have re-filled the tank. There were loads of bunnies but I have filled the freezer up with them so I let them bob about in the grass, one of them nearly ran into me, I was going to take it when I saw through the scope it had turned towards and was hopping quickly it passed a couple of feet to my right without ever noticing me. Next time it might not be so lucky Quote Link to post

Phantom 631
rechecked the zero to find it had wandered again, it always seems to do it just after I have re-filled the tank. Hi Alan, I don't know if you are aware of this but here goes! A PCP has what is known as a sweet spot in its power curve (unless its regulated well) For example my S200 has a fill pressure of 200 bar. However if I fill it to 200 bar, the pellets tend to go all over and the ft/lbs is way out; usually well under the nominal 11ft/lbs. Once the pressure in the cylinder reaches 185 bar, the power output remains consistent until it gets all the way down to 100 bar. The accuracy is also spot on from 185 down to 100 (I'v never let it go lower than that) So you may be well advised to do some accuracy testing this way; rather than having to re-adjust the scope. Shoot a good long string of say 20 to 50 pellets from a bench or rest of something. once the tightest group is achived, set the scope and put the caps back on. Then fill the gun to its max recomended pressure and fire another string, see how far out the pellets wander, then keep on firing until the pellets are leveling off and going back on target. Note the pressure left in the cylinder and that should be the start of the sweet spot. Then continue until your pellets start to fall or raise or go all over the place again and note the pressure in the cylinder again. You then have your working pressure and don't fill above the higher limit. Sorry if teaching you to suck eggs, I've given this advice to a few newbies and they've all found it usefull. Alan Clark 7
Thanks for that advice, I will have to try it. While out I had noticed that consistancy became better after 10 or 15 shots. Quote Link to post

Sounds like that's the start of the sweet spot then Glad to be able to help Take care Phantom Quote Link to post
