sean925 2
I have an 8 month old whippet bitch witch is retrieving 100% and her training is going well she was out ferreting with me at the week and a rabbit squatted in the middle of the field I gave the pup it's first slip as this rabbit was only 2 ft away and thought the pup would have a good chance I have been holding her back and she has been out ferreting bfore but never let loose just for a look.she coursed the rabbit down the field and turned it and coursed it back up all along she was well within striking distance she never made a sound but would not strike the rabbit got away and she came back on recall.have I fxxked her up or will she click in time Quote Link to post

Hannah4181 260
My beddy whippet was exactly the same at that age, he just seemed really reluctant to pick them up. I used a flirt stick for fitness at the time and in his case a few sessions on that allowing him to get the lure at the end was what got him striking confidently. I'm sure it would have come naturally in time without the aid of the flirt though. Quote Link to post
natter79 17
fckin hell my dog's first slip was just pure comedy, at least your pup coursed well by the sound's of it. it will come good in time. as top lamper 2k10 said a more experienced dog is a good thing for the pup to see. atb natter Quote Link to post
