pest hunter 151 15
I think if your gun has a wood stock than all you need to do is by camo the scope and silencer. The stock looks like a stick to the animals. A lot of you will say Ah but if a pigeon see's you holding a gun it will quickly move. But this is true even if you are holding a stick. So my advice is cover all metal on gun (very cheap to do) and if your hidden with camo then you should be fine. If all fails and you have a very light beech stock then mabe just sand it down and re-oil or re-polish it. All the best PH1 Quote Link to post
markha 99
Hmm, cam & concealment, the key things are to reduce the following: Shape Shine Shadow silhouette seizmic - vibrations through the ground: your footsteps can be'felt' as well as heard depending on the type of ground your on. Smell - yes scent is a dead give away How do we spot things when hunting or searching? Obviously movement is key, as a predator with 2 forward facing eyes, Eyes that only have the ability to accurately focus on something about the size of your hand at around 7ft away, all the rest is blurred and out of focus, hence the slow sweep of a field for instance, stopping and taking it all in to be able to spot things easier, however we have very good vision at spotting small movememnts in our periphial vision, just like the prey does, or animals with eyes placed on the side of their heads. Incidently the colour which humans eyes are able to see the easiest and at the greatest distances is not bright red - its a shade of royal Blue. What else do we look for?: Absence of the normal, presence of the abnormal - we know what to expect in a forest or field as we see and normal environment, but I can bet you have all zoomed in to something that doesnt qiet fit in to that 'normal view', yes those bunnies ears stand right out everytime, youll be panning your vision across some terrain and the bunnies ears dont quiet fit in, its also its silhouette. You dont need to spend lots of money on camoulfage, if any money at all, use whats available in the environment you are working in and you definately dont need to camo' your rifles - did they do this before all this modern technology existed? of course not, did they still shoot game for food and pest control? Yup Nearly all animals are quiet used to seeing things that dont fit into their environment, tractors, bales of hay, buckets with feed in etc etc, they dont get bothered by them, so a long metal thing sticking out of a bush doesnt realy bother them either, Its Us that bother our prey. The prey isnt looking for a rifle barrel, it doesnt know what one is! Its looking for all kinds of movement, its looking for our 2 front facing predator eye balls, its startled by that flash of light as the sun bounces of your objective lens, its not sure what that smell of soap, deodorant etc means, but it knows there something not quiet right. If you eliminate some of the things from the list at the start of the post your a good way to being better concealed. Use the foliage and natural ground cover in your hunting environment to conceal you, and above all patience, Unless that is you have a shotgun, then you can just run after your prey and shoot a multitude of pellets at it and one of them will do the trick. Sorry to all those who knew this, Its not meant as a sucking eggs post, but Georges profile picture has him as a young en, plus its cheaper to use natural camo, and this hiding and concealing may be a bit new, probably not considering the amount of bunnies at his feet though ( Mind you, george, you do appear to be holding a shotgun, so I gues you just run after them rabbits and spray them with lead ahahaha).
