shotgunny 39
Alright guys I've been asked to cull some rabbits on a local farm. The problem lies where the burrows are. They lead into a thick hedgerow . I was wondering if it will to difficult to retrieve ferrets in this heavy hedge ?? Will the ferrets come out or is it to risky to put ferrets in the first place ? JoeD 24
Can't say until we see a picture as its only a brief description, remember though because of the time of the year you will be digging a lot (I know because I went to do a job today on a xmas tree farm) and the warren was under a huge holly hedge. Its personal preference really, if you can see the holes, and net them up then I would say do it, but if you can't I would say don't. But each to their own. All the best, Joe Quote Link to post
runforyourlife 361
Yes you can mate, doesnt matter if you cant see the burrows. As you will "long net" either side of the hedgerow.... Firstly, get your strimmer, and move in on the banking, cut as much cover back as you can, then leave it for a few days. Use as many ferrets as you think possible but in a situation like this, it will be the more you use the better, as the bolting rabbits will want to run clear knowing that there are more ferrets in the holes. As for the digging bit, you may not, it all depends on the ferrets you are using, wether they are killers and eaters, or killers and move on...experiencded ferrets usually move on pretty quick.. JoeD 24
If your longnetting the lot then thats different but I am talking about pursenetting. Quote Link to post
runforyourlife 361
he never mentioned any kind of method, but long netting, purse netting, etc, all comes under ferreting pal... Quote Link to post
JoeD 24
Yeah I know but I was just saying what I do while purse netting as thats what I mainly do, but your right if you do use long nets I would net up both sides. But my main point was due to the time of the years their is probably going to be a lot of digging involved. All the best, Joe Quote Link to post
