Guest busterdog
It's an age old problem and one with lots of answers and different ways of looking at it. The way i look at it is after years of being let down by idiots and people who should know better is to keep them close, i don't like the idea of culling, purely because its a no way back method. Try and place them with decent lads and you should always have a way of keeping you'r line or family of dogs alive should the worst happen like loosing your dog to disease or worst of worst your pup doesn't come up to scratch. Another thing you shouldn't forget is should your family of dogs be the dogs danglies then it's hard to keep a family going in just your back yard, if you don't put enough out there then you'll soon box yourself in genetically. The whole idea of putting dogs out with other people is to get the feed back of how the line is going in the field and in IMO thats were any culling should be done. Best of luck with the pups. Guest busterdog
my advice mate is not to cull. If you have a enough room to keep a litter of pups keep them. When they reach the age of working start(14 to 18 months),try them all, give them fare law and what doesn't make the grade get rid. I dont no of any one thats bred a whole litter with a 100% working rate, if you have a litter of 5 pups and get two or three out of the litter to work you have done real well.If all 5 work you have cracked it. If you sell a couple to strangers what does it matter. Keep their names and addresses, keep in touch and if their pups make the grade you have something to carry on your lines with later on. You can then return the favour, this in my opinion is how new friendships are born and trust is developed and good dogs have not gone to waist WHAT HE SAY Quote Link to post

Rhodey 96
You don't know me so as you say you will not sell a pup to some one you don't know, if you check through my posts I don't know a lot about working terriers but if they are good breeding then surely this would be a good place for me to start. They would be worked not all the time to ground but will be worked in some way everyday. I've got my first job as a keeper and could do with a brace of good terriers they will be usefull tools for me, anyway if you want to consider selling any to me then please PM me, looking for dogs not bitches and they will not be sold on or used for finacial gain. Cheers for reading good luck with the pups either way. Quote Link to post
ow3n8321 0
to be honest mate u cant think alot about the quality of your dogs even thinking about getting rid of the pups like that.if you thought your dogs had good breeding through them you would want to keep that line in them. lavrockhall 2
Its hard enough runing on two pups on out of a litter. A full litter would have you round the bend lavrock Quote Link to post
tinytiger 857
Murphys law being what it is ,youll probably end up "giving swimming lessons" to the best pups in the litter. To my mind the word cull has a kind of selectivity inherent in it. i.e removing an adult dog from the genepool because its sh1t.As somebody said earlier dont count your chickens before they hatch. MOO 730
I dont know if its a big man or tough guy thing but why cull healthy decent bred pus just cause you cant find a home for them so far?/ ....pretty much sums it up what tiny tiger says ....you will not know what pups are worth keeping for a year or a bit Edited June 22, 2010 by MOO Quote Link to post
