Pest control is not hunting although hunting is a method for pest control..... irishnut 297 Posted June 19, 2010 Report Share Posted June 19, 2010 i hunt because i like to, it started for me when i was younger, and got into bushcraft, through the scouts. i liked going rough camping with my mates, we decided to start snaring rabbits while we were camping, i grew to love rabbit meat, so started hunting more of them, then i got a rifle to shoot them, i loved shooting so decided to get a shotgun to get me some pigeon too, the farmer who owned the land i shot on soon had me doing fox control for him, using the guns and terrier. i still love eating the game i shoot, and like the fact its free, and im also doing a good turn for the farmer. now hunting is a way of life to me 1 Quote Link to post Share on other sites

higgins 75 Posted June 19, 2010 Report Share Posted June 19, 2010 I no longer enjoy the killing of quarry,but i still enjoy hunting.Not to same degree of earlier years simply because there is too much negativity attached to it from the media and anti intereference.I enjoyed hunting when all the elements were there,these being a shared hunting experience among people with respect for the quarry,exploring new territory and different types of quarry,sometimes being alone with a good dog,being at one with nature,just everything that surrounds the actual hunt.The thrill of the hunt,the combination of man and animal working well as part of a team,or just admiring a working animal in it's element.I think the reason why some of us hunt is an expression from our subconcious desires linked perhaps to our ancestors when they hunted for food and fur for clothing etc;I can't speak for an anti's lack of hunting instinct though,unless they are letting their beliefs in sentimentality suppress their hunting instincts perhaps,but i think the hunting instinct is in us all.I well remember being anti fox hunting when i was younger after watching news reports of the foxhunts,and after actually hunting fox with terriers i became more passionate about hunting. scothunter 12,609 Posted June 19, 2010 Report Share Posted June 19, 2010 well for me i was a nipper and the guy over the road from me was a bit of a poacher and taxidermist. found him intriguing. he took me snaring foxes rabbits and took me ferreting. got my first shotgun when i was 18 and luckily i knew a keen shooter who took me beating and ive even shot grouse on the glorious 12th. ive met ordinary decent lads to directors from BP. ilooking back i enjoyed every min and think myself extremely lucky. from all the people i met from poachers to gamekeepers to ghillies they all said the same.respect your quarry and do the right thing by them and give it a quick death. shamefully i never always followed that and for that i have regrets. dunno if its cz the older you get but silly things like the finches that visit my garden or the family of hedgehogs or the vixen looking for scraps i see more and enjoy seeing wildlife in my back garden. all i do now is ferreting,occasionaly have the odd night shooting bunnies,my old lurcher bitch is 16years now think she wont see xmas but ill replace her straight away and get another lurcher fantastic dogs imo Quote Link to post Share on other sites

poacher3161 1,766 Posted June 19, 2010 Report Share Posted June 19, 2010 Great grandparents and other family members were poachers plus always had an intrest in nature from a very young age though must admit i found being a poacher was being different and rebelelious against the ruleing classes wich gives me a buzz at times as i will never be known as a forlock tugging servant of those who wish to keep ordinary people in their place.I only have hunted wat i can eat or sell as i have had no reason to catch and kill barring rats other animals that are of no use to me.
