JackReid 35
Afternoon fellow airgunners, I havent been at it as much recently to my dismay as I've been at Download Festival (Donnington) from Wed-Mon just gone Wasn't dismay at the festival but when returning my car way having a bracket replaced and I've been put down to work all nights this week until tomorrow when I drive down with a mate to near Falmouth, Cornwall, to do some sea fishing!! We're not full on fisherman just having fun catching some food, have had a fair bit of success off the rocks in the past though. Yesterday I popped out early afternoon as I was working at 6 and need to get fed before. I dont usually expect much from midday shoots, getting there at 12, But I havent been out for a week so would be happy just to shoot some targets and have a wander. Got laid down at the permission to fire off a few warmups at 25 meter just to get back in the swing of it. Within 6 shots the central bullseye was hollowed out by AA Fields. This tune on my 95k has made it like a rail-gun. Do your bit and it delivers a perfectly accurate shot everytime smoothly and quietly at full power. Went back to the car to get the camera and had forgotten it! Damn it, I thought and plodded on. After taking a close walk along a hedgerow I saw a enormous bunny's sillouette hop into the hedge about 70 meters up. I kept going fairly slowly then spotted his smaller mate. Really slowly got sat down and shuffled a foot or two slowly out into the field to get a better angle. Still didnt have a grass free POI so shuffled another inch or two and guestimated 26 meters and a perfect headshot ensued. Wish I had my camera for this as it was just a textbook takedown despite a non bragging range. I went further on and found nothing else was out so went back to the bunny and went to pick him up. Absoloutley riddled in f:censored:g flee's. So so many I didnt wanna pick it up completley. Didnt have a knife or stick the right shape to scoop it so went for the put the stick through the 'hole I made earlier' option. I'm talking about the AA field hole either side of its head you dirty buggers! I needed to take it with me to try bait some crows and got to my location opened him up got a nice positon but hayfever was in flow and crows dont seem to bother with bait in the afternoon here so I moved on, taking down a smaller bunny bit further on. I popped the bunny o nthe side of the track and made my way up a usual haunt of the permission, wieving in and out each side of the hedge scouting for cotton tails. All of a sudden out i nthe sun was a big crow. It was about 35 meters and I slowly went down into the shade and sat withi nthe hedge. Couldnt believe it hadnt seen me already. I wasnt obvious but they are so sharp usually. I assumed it may have a broken wing but then noticed it looked ok. It went out of sight behind soem grass. I weighed up my options of whether to be patient and be ready, wait until it shows and pop it just under 2 mildots hold over. I thought it may move on any second so got up and moved back the way I came so I was opposite side of the hedge again. I moved round and into to a really cool hide spot which I could do alot with, unfortunatley its the main warren on this side of the permissio nrpobably so would have bunnies jumping out at a meter or so range! I dropped sat again and got the Crow i nmy sights, guestimated 35 meters and a bit of wind. Let the shot go and the wind took it further right then wished, crack the Crow was hit i nthe shoulder area and was wounded. I stayed calm and within 5-10 seconds had another AA Field in the chamber and crosshair scouting for the crow slowly moving away on foot. He was now about 40 meters so gave it a little more holdover and another half mildot for the wind and hit the crow in the back of the head. Job done I thought then heard another squawking in a tree shared i nthe same hedgeline, probably 10 meters away. Rolled the parralax down and mag to x6, stepped slowly out the hedge inlet I was in and the crow took off as I raised the gun. I took these following pics today when I went out at the same sort of time however it was much hotter today and saw very little. This picture is the inlet I fired out off and took the crow, Despite not being a perfect clean kill the act was fairly swift and I took my prize accross the field by its wing. The farmers son who is in his 50's or so saw me accross the way and I gave him the thumbs up as crows arent easy to get here. He shouted me over and asked if I had time to hang it up on a fenceline near some Barley growing as they are meeting in gangs there and causing a bit of chaos. Every little helps and no animal is not slightly warned off when one of their buddyies fate is for all to see! 2 Quote Link to post
JackReid 35
------------------------------------------------------------------------- So as mentioned today I popped out for the same sorta thing. Was much warmer today and not very comfortable missioning about in the direct sun for feather and fur to see. I cast my mind back to the day before and seeing all the crows near the barley and had thought about where I could ambush them and make use of their loitering near the Barley. They like it where the grass field joins the crops, so I chose the bottom of the field to focus on where their is much more hide areas available and I had seen them all down there earlier. Just was a bit of a recon session although I did hop into the area I've chosen with the camo net and a crow decoy on the crop line just see if it made them comfortable enough to all come down for a lead picnic. This picture is just after I packed up. I was sat in accross the tiny stream directly behind where the post stands in the photo. This is the rough view out and the post was paced out to 27 meters so I could use that to get my bearings. Had some mild interest but if anything it was hostile towards the decoy not reassuring. Watch this space as their is potential here. All the best and sorry for 2 posts I am using photobucket and entering pictures as media files but after a few it says 'You have posted too many media files for this post' or something. Will shirnk them down further or something?! Jack Edited June 17, 2010 by JackReid 1 Quote Link to post
