ramman 1
Considering getting lurcher from David Hancock been given mixed reviews from friends. I know basically what you put into a dog is what you get out of it but wondered if anyone owns or has owned one what their oppinion was as to temperment, training wise and working? Quote Link to post

watchman 256
this is mine mate, this bitch came up on here and it was the x i was looking for,i to have heard all about hancock but hey so what, now at 9 months she really is a cracker, in my eyes anyway lol, haven't had any of the problems with her that people regularly go on about to be honest, she fell straight into line with my other dogs and has never given me any concerns as yet, very easy to train, broken to the ferrets and a joy to own if im completely honest. working ability, who knows early days yet, hope to start her off lamping in a few months and looking forward to getting her out with the ferrets so only time will tell Quote Link to post

johnny boy68 11,726
I've had a few Hancock dogs over the last 20 odd years,5 in total.3 were average,1 was a complete waste of time and 1 was exceptional on all pre-ban quarry. The bitch i run at the moment is from a hancock x hancock and i'm very happy with her, would i go to hancock for another "No".imo theres some exceptional collie x grey's out there and you've a much better chance of getting a worker from a worker x worker.Just like to add its not a done deal when you get a pup out of workers you still need to put the work into any dog........John Quote Link to post
Sky09 8
i have a hancock bitch almost 12 months old big gut probs when i first had her. turning into a good dog and looking very strong dont think i would go back there it was an eye opener Quote Link to post

Do you think that maybe there might just be a good'un in there somewhere? Cheers. Quote Link to post

Maybe I could've put it differently charti, all the Hancock dogs I owned were pre-ban when i say they were average I mean average on all quarry though apart from the one all were very decent rabbiting dogs. Why did I go back to hancocks to get more, for one you knew you what you were going to get and back in the day when we didn't have the luxury of the internet if you wanted a nice typey collie x grey Hancock was your man.I'm not having a go either but have you never had a bad deerhound x or saluki x?If you did why did you get more, perhaps you were looking for the goose that layed the golden egg like me........John 1 Quote Link to post

I've had running dogs for around 45 years now, and owned and run them around the world, but believe me, I've had and seen my share of bad dogs ! LOL ! I'm not breed blind, and have had Collie x. Deer x, Beddy x, Saluki x, Whippet x, and a few pure breds...and had good and bad from all types ! I've talked to a few people lately that have what looks like very nice Hancock dogs; would I have one ? No, they are just not my type, but that doesn't make them bad dogs ! Cheers. Quote Link to post
stroller 341
depends what you want from your dogs ive seen a few hancock dogs around here and they were good all rounders. the collie hybrids are good dogs and a lot depends on how you bring them on. Do what you feel is right and enjoy your dog Quote Link to post

I think its more to do with the Hancock name rather than the breed Charti,as soon as people say they have a Hancock bred dog its stigmatised which isn't always warranted.........John Quote Link to post

It's like Terriers; If I ever got a terrier again, it would be a Bedlington or a Plummer, but Plummer Terriers suffer, (wrongly, in my oppinion), because of D.B.Plummer !! Cheers. Quote Link to post
