mj robson 8
I was out this morning at 03:15 for a stalk around an area planted with Cabbage to see if I could get myself a buck. As soon as I got out of the truck I could see a big buck couched in the grass just 100 yards away! I stalked up to about 60 yards and could have taken a neck shot off the bipod but I have to admit to getting a bit of the old shakes and wasn't happy taking the shot! I gave a couple of barks and the buck got up and ran 20 meters to just below a ridge across the field and stood broadside. I could see a couple of feet of shallow backstop above his back before the skyline but decided not to take the shot, knowing how bullets can exit at funny angles. It's a shame because he was a medal class buck for sure. I hope to catch up with him another time. I'd only gone about 300 yards when I spotted another buck and a doe out feeding on the new cabbage plants. After a short stalk I dropped him on the spot with a heart shot at about 150 yards. On my way back to the truck I spotted another buck and doe in the next cabbage field and stalked around to get a shot at him. I got to about 60 yards and dropped him with a high heart shot. I'd spotted 3 bucks and 2 does in less than half an hour and it wasn't even 04:00!!! Both bucks had big bloated bellies full of veg. I then spent the rest of the morning shooting bunnies with the rimmy. Happy days! Cheers, Mark. Quote Link to post
