mattydski 560
One mans "not up to scratch" is another mans top dog. A very fair point. +1 Quote Link to post
albert64 1,882
the trouble is you get lads bigging each others dogs up on hunting sites, not just this one, then next thing there up for sale for some reason or other mainly cos there not up to the job and someone buys what they think is a good un for good money, but sometimes you get genuine cases but most of them go in their circle of hunting pals as the old boy used to say good dogs are bought there never sold Quote Link to post
kev2010 8
As has already been said,im sure there are some genuine sales. But for me personally my dogs are with me for life, good or bad.Work on thier strengths not thier weaknesess. Quote Link to post
Tiny 7 1,694
Well i know that good dog come up for sale, People split with there wifes, Have too go for a break too h.m.p ect and have no other option but to pass there dog on, And if anyone buys an older dog without seen in on the lamp for an hour (or which ever form of work the will be used for) well more fool them, And if the seller has a problem with a trial stay well away (Bit of common sence goes along way), And for everone thats saying wont get rid of theres not matter what there faults, Well if i fetched a pup/dog on and it wasnt up to scratch it would go, no other way about it either pts or pet home simple So yes top class dogs do get passed on FACT either for unfortunate circumstances or for top doller Edited June 14, 2010 by tiny 7 Quote Link to post

jamie1011 5
i agree no one would sell a good dog although sometimes it happens. yesturday i gave away the best working grey ive ever seen. due to rescuing her from a track when i was there with my trainer mates and not really having space. so sometimes very rarely it does happen. found her a great home though and we went for an hour walk. think they were impressed. she lifted one up coursed him into the bushes and picked him up in the bushes and retrieved straight out. she did get a cut though whilst out but once healed his gonna post few pics on here of her Good on yer Jamie......Like said they do come along every now and again just not very often.I myself would seriously struggle to part wth a dog that I had taken on and put the time into traning, schooling and the like. but its every man to his own and I would rather see a man sell a good dog if he cant or dosn't want to look after it than see it wasted or even worse neglected. ATB being honest mate if i had the space she wouldnt of went anywhere. i didnt have the space when my mrs took her on when they were gonna pts at the track and struggled the last month. been desperate to find a kennel to put in me garden for her just couldnt find anything ideal at the time. i didnt big her up in the ad if anything made out like she was just ok i let the trial do the talking and like i said she was hoovering them up. and bear in mind this was during the day with just one month training. she wasnt shy of hedges and would work nettles and cover. and had great stamina. and to top it off she walks next to you off the lead untill you give her the pssst command. if she didnt have the tatoo in her ear by her working ability nobody would think she was a grey. so its a great shame as ive lost out on something truely special. .but least shes got a great home where she aint gonna be cramped Quote Link to post
heart of wales 19
Bought a working 18 Month old GSD of a lad last Year he had a genuine reason for selling him, best money I have ever spent, what a tool The lad who sold him was genuinely gutted still rings me now and asks about him. When You buy an adult dog sometimes you can be really lucky and pick up a good one Peoples lives can change over night one minute You are able to walk kennel work umpteen dogs, then bang life throws you a shitter A lot of dog sales I believe are caused by bullshit, people especially youngsters believe a lot of it and their expectations are to high of a Young dog,so inevitably they then sell him on because he isnt superdog at 11 months old. pottyboots 1
Personally I wouldn't buy a adult dog, I get more satisfaction bringing up and training a pup, and the buzz you get on the first kill is well worth all the hard work, 1 Quote Link to post
tote 854
Lots of folk always buying and selling adult dogs. I was always of the idea that no one sells a good dog, and so therefore no one buys a good dog? Do people sell adult dogs dogs that are good at their job? Just wondered your thoughts. As has been said already decent dogs do come up for sale, allways best to ask for a trial if you don't know the dog though. On the other hand there is also a lot of sh!t sold aswell, yappers, jackers, etc so it can be a risky business buying an adult dog without a trial. Quote Link to post

Aye, i wouldn't do it even with a trial, an hour on the lamp or out mooching isn't enough often to spot the niggling things which force the sale. If your in the market for an adult dog you gotta be either very lucky or willing to go through a few. Interestingly A LOT of the folk that buy adult dogs have had 10+ in their lives by the time they are in their 20's/30's, whereas for other folk 2 or 3 running dogs can easily last them a 10 year period. poacher3161 1,766
IMHO i believe the special outstanding lurchers that do come up for sale now and again due to circumstances beyond the owners control are never advertised depending on how well known the dog is as most lurcher owners i know carnt resist singing a good dogs praises if they own one.My dogs are rubbish till their 8-9 years old Quote Link to post
stabba 10,745
Good dogs do come up for sale now and again...but alot more change hands for no money at all...the ones that are gifted are usually genuine men gifting to genuine men who know that the dog will be cared for and worked hard...too many fly by nights /dealers in it for the money and just dealing in dog misery..atb stabba Quote Link to post
