Ideation 8,216
Id say, forget the whole idea, just stick to inviting members from here, out on ferreting days, as doing what you propose can only mean trouble, as you sound like it would be more than a one off, say you take out 10 people x 10 times per season, and one from each party take up ferreting, thats ten more lads/lasses in your area wanting permission, and they may all, not give a shite if its legal or not, one area in essex I shoot, the local farmers are ANTI FERRET because off the amount of kids walking around with a fert, leaving ferts behind, as well as mess, and illegal poaching, makes ferreting by us, almost impossible that is exactly what my father has said stubby as it is only me the fruitman on the estate and a couple of our beaters that our allowed on the estate to go ferreting and i do the longnetting and my father and i do the lamping but i was interested in peoples views on the subject so i think on that note this discussion is now at an end. thanks to all who have posted Good lad - stick to taking out folk you know - i always enjoy taking out friends children / younger sibilings. Nothing like heading off with the ferrets and next doors 6 and 8 yr old girls. They love it, its a good experiance, and i dont think they are going to go back on my permission. I also take out the kids etc of a lot of the landowners i ferret for and the kids of the guns on the estates etc. It's like some kinda wierd bloodsports babysitting service! Quote Link to post

I did'nt say, keep it to ourselves, just people off here you can get an idea what they are like, by reading there posts, topics, profile etc, you can then deciede wether they are the type to thank you, or stab you in the back and try nicking/poaching your permission but you carry on leaving posts without reading replies fully Quote Link to post

kevin from bristol 95
over the course of the last season i was asked about taking people out ferreting in my local area problem is i guess that i would need insurance to cover them in case thay hurt themselves whilst out ferreting but on the other hand it may get people interested in the world of ferreting and pest control and a greater understanding of what we do and why ,but you would need to charge them for this to cover the insurance fuel etc etc ,your views please if you are carrying out pest control you should have public liability insurance won't that cover you ? the ratcatcher 1
I've taken quite a few people out with me ferretting in the last couple of year's and its hard now not to be cynical, most have let me down either going back to my permission or getting angry when I've taken some other beginner who needed a few pointer's on how to get started, for every 10 lads, there's probably 1 decent 1,I think insurance is a waste of money,as I don't charge anyone anything then I don't see it as a problem,if they want to get it its down to them, they are aware of the risks, atb, wirralman i agree i to have taken out many lads over the last couple of years and out of them all i think there is only one that i would happily agree to take at anytime and again i have never charged any of them. but to me its not just a sport to go out killing for me it puts food on the table so before i agree to take anyone out i give them a rabbit to skin and cut up infront of me to prove that they at least have to ability to prepare it for cooking and each of them as sat at my table to eat rabbit before we go out. but i have never been asked for insurance even when i used to ferret the rats at a local school Quote Link to post
