as a gamekeepers son and a countrymen your exactly right i use snares dropboxes ferreting longnetting tunnel traps and i also rifle shoot them at night each method is a tool in the tool box and to use only one method will only reduce their numbers slightly but to use the methods available in the right place is very good at keeping them under control if you string them together. oh if only i could make a living from it i would be a happy man??? well i can dream cant i.

Ferreting with shotguns and lamping with shotgun and soon rifle.

Thats the way we get the best numbers

But if the area is too sensitive for shotguns we use long nets and purse nets and dogs. Dont get as good numbers but still get a few and its good fun.

What Chalky said. But i'll add rough shooting over a spaniel . . . . just for fun.

All of them! I'm yet to do a job where one method alone solves the problem - most require 2-3 different approaches, often more.

Ferreting with purse and longnets and dogs (I was recently featured in Shooting Times doing just that), snaring and fenn trapping, and most recently shooting with NV are probably the ones I use most often. In terms of what I enjoy most, a walk with just a hob ferret, and a .410 takes some beating - though that may be because I don't have much ground that lends itself to it so don't get to do it much.

Yer its a pleasure - i try and get out for at least a couple of hours a day 7 days a week, there's always something that needs shooting and it's good exercise for the dogs. This week it's been squirrel duty and i've knocked down 28 greys with the .410 along with assorted other game and vermin.
